Requisition Number 17-0007 Title Academic Facilitator Post Date 1/20/2017 City Tampa State FL Work Hours Hours Vary DescriptionPurpose of the PositionAn Academic Facilitator develops and delivers high quality remediation and intervention resources and services to promote student development and mastery of foundational academic and professional competencies. This position is responsible for managing online student information and implements institutional initiatives. An Academic Facilitator works in tandem with faculty and program leadership to maximize academic achievement, retention, certification, graduation, and placement outcomes and ensure overall health and integrity of UMA programs. Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides support facilitation in courses and coaching with student populations as assigned to ensure student mastery of course content as well as academic and professional skill development. Remains responsive to student needs and student and instructor requests for support. Effectively prepares for each week of facilitation and/or coaching and demonstrates proficiency with all relevant software, course content and materials. Establishes and maintains a positive, student-centered learning environment by exemplifying proper online decorum and integrity and requiring the same of students. Engages students in all aspects of the educational process, e.g. coursework, research, student-to- student collaboration, tracking performance, and student survey feedback. Provides students with feedback in a constructive and positive manner highlighting both strengths and areas in need of improvement. Utilizes data to identify students with historical and/or current low performance, understand student needs, and provide remediation and intervention matched to those needs. Actively outreaches to at-risk and struggling students to provide support and assistance, ensure understanding of available resources, and develop action plans with academic performance and engagement goals. Supports student mastery of program/course learning objectives by providing regular and relevant group learning labs and individual one-to-one coaching sessions. Creates and implements curricular scaffolding tools and materials, supplementing those provided by the assigned course instructor. Provides feedback and refinement recommendations to administration regarding program curriculum, resources and support services based upon expertise in subject area, current industry trends and student performance and engagement indicators. Demonstrates ability to consistently meet key performance indicators related to student outreach and services and documentation. Advises students on matters related to academics, attendance, career readiness and professionalism. Proactively monitors students achievement and assists with resolution of student concerns to ensure program retention and persistence. Actively communicates with team leads and managers when barriers to student success are identified and participates in problem solving. Implements institutional student success, retention, career readiness, certification and placement initiatives by maintaining productive contact with students and posting institutional announcements as needed. Effectively communicates by email, telephone, virtual and face-to-face meetings with students, instructors, supervisors, and/or other school personnel. Maintains regular and predictable attendance within courserooms and at the workplace. Performs any additional tasks requested by department leadership to ensure the smooth functioning and integrity of schools operations. Carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, Accrediting agencies, CIE, and UMA internal policies and procedures. Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures. RequirementsAssociated Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Superior interpersonal and communication skillsMotivates, remains positive, engages team members, and leads by example Interacts in a cooperative and professional manner with team members Delivers quality customer service with high student satisfaction rates Utilizes a variety of methods and media to facilitate instruction and coaching to all levels of students Innovative critical thinking and problem solving skillsThinks and works independently and as a part of a team to solve complex problems and remove barriers to success for groups and/or individuals Analyzes data to identify at-risk students, understand student needs and provide appropriate interventions Identifies key elements of a situation and exercise critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution skills with/for faculty, staff, and students Strong work ethicSupports a learner-centered, service approach for adult learners Prioritizes and organizes high volumes of work, ensuring attention to detail, and accuracy within the required timeframe Maintains a measured response to rapid change and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed Education/Experience Healthcare FacilitatorBachelor s degree or higher with major or minor in the healthcare field of instruction or Bachelor s degree or higher with at least three (3) years of relevant healthcare industry experienceAn Associate s degree and an industry certification/licensure consistent with employment in the healthcare field of instruction (all certifications/licensures must remain active and be maintained as required by State and/or accrediting commissions) General Education Facilitator Master s degree or higher with a minimum of 18 credits hours in the assigned field of instruction required (major or minor in the assigned field of instruction preferred) Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel (required) Experience with Blackboard or another Learning Management System (preferred) Experience with CampusVue or another Student Information System (preferred) Experience with Blackboard Collaborate or another asynchronous instructional tool (preferred) One to three (1-3) years online teaching with adult education including student advising, evaluation skills, and classroom instruction/coaching (preferred) Demonstrated success in applying adult learning principals and instructional design and delivery best practices to ensure mastery of program/course learning objectives (preferred) Physical Demands Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer Requires occasional bending, stooping and squatting Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
