The Opportunity:

Give Kids The World is the fourth largest non-profit organization in the Central Florida area; for 13 years in a row has received 4 stars from Charity Navigator, and a 100% rating -the only Central Florida nonprofit to do so. From runs to galas our Signature Events are among the largest and most coveted events in Central Florida. In 2016 The Black & White Gala was the second largest gross revenue event and entertained nearly 1400 people from all over the world.

GKTW is currently seeking undergraduate and graduate Special Events &Fundraising students for internships. Interns will be asked to work a full 12 week semester at a minimum of 16 hours per week, on property in Kissimmee, FL

Our Special Events & Fundraising interns have a unique opportunity to work with one of the few international nonprofit organizations headquartered in Central Florida. As an intern for Give Kids The World you will also join one of the largest group of active volunteers in the country as well as gain in-depth knowledge of fundraising, event planning and event implementation.

This is a professional internship with a business dress code, policies and procedures mirroring those of the professional staff. Students will go through an orientation at the beginning of their program, have an opportunity to serve in a variety of roles throughout the internship tenure and gain practical experience in event planning, fundraising and donor relations. Student's primary work will be in a regular office environment, generally within standard M-F work hours, however leading up to event dates and the day of events may require offsite work and hours outside of a standard M-F. Travel to local offsite locations may occasionally be necessary.

Commitment

At least 192 Hours- calculated at 12 Weeks; Minimum 16 hours per week

General Department Hours 8:30 to 5:30 M thru F

Work times and days may vary as events often occur outside of normal business hours and weekdays

  • Black & White Gala Event Date September 16, 2017
  • Challenge for Hope 5K Event Date November 11, 2017
  • Giving Tuesday Event Date November 28, 2017
  • Workplace Giving Campaigns Event Dates September 1 through December 31, 2017

Project(s) assignments are determined by the correlation of the internship and event dates as well as the needs of the department.

Job Responsibilities Include:

As a Special Events/Fundraising Intern you will be an extension of the development and special events team, assisting in all areas of department activities to include but are not limited to:

Signature GKTW Events and fundraising efforts

  • Planning and implementation
  • Sponsorship generation
  • Table and ticket sales
  • Marketing & Research
  • Donor development and relations
  • In-kind donation and revenue solicitation
  • Strategy development and execution
  • Data management, documentation
    • Creating and managing GKTW’s sponsorship and team fundraising group contacts and marketing lists.
    • Compiling weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on progress to goal for all Special Events
    • Logistical projects and assignments.

Third Party Fundraisers

  • Representing the village at various special events held on our behalf
  • Assisting with promotional events such as agency fairs, public speaking presentations and advocacy
  • Assisting with special projects related to development and fundraising activities
  • Revenue development and documentation
  • Strategy and execution
  • Donor development and relations

Workplace Giving

  • Assist and represent the village at various special events held on our behalf such as
    • Agency fairs, public speaking presentations, tours and advocacy
  • Assist with special projects related to development and fundraising activities
  • Revenue development and documentation
  • Strategy and execution
  • Donor development and relations

Giving Tuesday

  • Planning and execution of Social Media and Marketing Campaign
  • Donor development and relations
  • Revenue development and documentation
  • Strategy and execution

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of event planning and potential pitfalls
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong organization & time management skills
  • Understanding of sales and customer service skills
  • Talented multitasking capabilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Practiced problem solving skills
  • Desire to work in the nonprofit sector
  • Courage to work outside of your comfort zone

Students must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the Village. Although this is an unpaid internship, students will receive a one-time of $300 stipend at the completion of successful internship.
