CLASSIFICATION:        Environmental Services Technical Assistant 

HOURS:            40 hours per week – M-F

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    
Four years of college, declared major or course work in the physical or natural sciences. Must possess a current/valid Florida driver license and maintain insurability under the District commercial automobile coverage.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Scanning data sheets, and fill-in as needed with clerical duties for department. Assist Quality Assurance with duties including filing and sorting of paperwork, cataloging paperwork and developing/using NELAC compliant record keeping system. Assists all sections as needed including sample prep, analysis, disposal, and cleaning. Assists department management on special projects.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:    
Collects and analyzes water samples using proper equipment and procedures. Measures and analyzes water samples using proper equipment and procedures. Measures physical and chemical parameters of water quality with field and laboratory equipment. Uses computer and Laboratory Information Management System in areas related to assigned tasks. Records data and test results. Uses technical equipment including GPS and field computers, records and utilizes data in departments and GIS database.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain eligibility under the District's commercial vehicle program.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
While performing the duties of this job, an employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, touch, speak, hear, and see.  An employee is occasionally required to bend, kneel, reach, twist, carry, climb, push and pull.  
An employee must lift and/or move small articles and occasionally lift objects up to 20 pounds. 
An employee must demonstrate fine motor skills and to be able to operate vehicles and other equipment. 
An employee is occasionally required to work in heat, cold and wet/damp conditions and to navigate uneven and/or outdoor terrain. 
Certain positions may require work above ground or in enclosed spaces.
Certain positions may have requirements of 50 pounds maximum lifting with frequent lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
Positions requiring strength demands in the Heavy and/or Very Heavy category have detailed physical performance analyses available for review.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:    
Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally extreme. Exposure to wet and humid conditions, outside weather conditions and the use of chemicals.  The use of safety equipment is required. Exposure to dust from paper.
