Instructors in primary roles provide core content instruction to students based upon the UMA standardized curriculum to promote student development and mastery of foundational academic and professional competencies. Instructors in secondary roles develop and deliver high quality remediation and intervention resources and services. This position manages online student information, evaluates student performance, provides targeted academic services, implements departmental initiatives and follows institutional policies and procedures while ensuring student satisfaction. An Instructor works in tandem with program leadership and cross-department representatives to maximize academic achievement, retention, certification, graduation, and placement outcomes to ensure overall health and integrity of UMA programs. Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned Teaches material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedules and deadlines to assure an appropriate level of student satisfaction. Effectively prepares for each week of instruction and demonstrates proficiency with all relevant software, course content and materials. Evaluates student coursework against stated learning outcomes and works with students so that a full achievement level is attained. Grades all discussions, assignments, modules and tests and posts final grades in a timely manner. Provides students with feedback in a constructive and positive manner highlighting both strengths and areas in need of improvement. Appraises students of their academic status throughout a course through continuous evaluation and review of formative and summative assessment results. Maintains regular and predictable attendance within courserooms and hosts frequent office hours and individual one-to-one sessions. Establishes and maintains a positive, student-centered learning environment by exemplifying proper online decorum and integrity and requiring the same of students. Creates and implements curricular scaffolding tools and materials to match student learning styles and academic needs, supplementing those provided in the core curriculum. Offers synchronous instructional labs. Remains responsive to student needs and student requests for support. Proactively monitors students achievement and actively outreaches to at-risk students to support course persistence as well as program retention. Effectively communicates by email, telephone, and virtual with students as well as face-to-face interaction with fellow instructors, supervisors, and/or other school personnel. Consistently meets key performance indicators related to student outreach, engagement and documentation. Utilizes data to identify students with historical and/or current underperformance, understand student needs, and provide remediation and intervention matched to those needs. Actively outreaches to at-risk and struggling students to provide support and assistance, ensure understanding of available resources, and develop action plans with academic performance and engagement goals. Advises students on matters related to academics, attendance, career readiness and professionalism. Participates in curriculum development and review based upon expertise in subject area, current industry trends and student performance and engagement indicators. Attends and participates in required school meetings and assists program leadership and cross-departmental teams as needed. Communicates with leadership when barriers to student success are identified and then participates in problem solving solutions. Maintains an up-to-date faculty file in accordance with UMA policy, state regulations and accrediting commission requirements including required meetings, in-services and continuing education units. Performs other duties as requested and assigned to ensure the smooth functioning and integrity of school s operations. Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE and internal UMA policies and procedures Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. RequirementsEducation/Experience Healthcare Instructor Bachelor s degree or higher Equivalent of 15 semester credits hours in the subject field Academic preparation in the specific courses taught Graduation from a program in the healthcare field Minimum of three (3) years of occupational experience An industry certification/licensure if consistent with employment in the healthcare field of instruction (all certifications/licensures must remain active and be maintained as required by State and/or accrediting commissions) General Education Instructor Master s degree or higher with a minimum of 18 credits hours in the assigned field of instruction required (major or minor in the assigned field of instruction preferred) Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel (required) Experience with Blackboard or another Learning Management System (preferred) Experience with CampusVue or another Student Information System (preferred) Experience with Blackboard Collaborate or another asynchronous instructional tool (preferred) One to three (1-3) years online teaching with adult education including student advising, evaluation skills, and classroom instruction/coaching (preferred) Demonstrated success in applying adult learning principals and best practices to ensure mastery of program/course learning objectives (preferred) Associated Knowledge, Skills&Abilities Superior interpersonal and communication skills Motivates, remains positive, engages team members, and leads by example Interacts in a cooperative and professional manner with team members Delivers quality customer service with high student satisfaction rates Utilizes a variety of methods and media to deliver instruction to all levels of students Innovative critical thinking and problem solving skills Thinks and works independently and as a part of a team to solve complex problems and remove barriers to success for groups and/or individuals Analyzes data to identify at-risk students, understand student needs and provide appropriate supports Identifies key elements of a situation and exercise critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution skills with/for faculty, staff, and students Strong work ethic Supports a learner-centered, service approach for adult learners Prioritizes and organizes high volumes of work, ensuring attention to detail, and accuracy within the required timeframe Maintains a measured response to rapid change and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
