POSITION Summary: Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, and in collaboration with the Corporate International Patient Coordinator, the International Patient Coordinator serves as a liaison with all hospital departments to facilitate the health care needs of the international patient seeking SHC services. Ensuring an efficient process for international admissions and decisions, he/she will communicate effectively with other departments to appropriately prepare international patient cases for review and presentation to the medical staff. The international patient population is a high risk population and necessitates careful planning, and coordination. Detailed communication with clinical, surgical, rehabilitative and care management staff is essential to facilitating completed international applications for treatment and executing an effective plan of care. The International Patient Coordinator is supported by the care management team in an effort designed to meet the unique and individual/cultural needs of the international population. Prepares statistical reports for international volume and activity for the Chief of Staff and Board of Governors. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the HQ International Patient Coordinator: Receives, evaluates, and coordinates the presentation of a completed international application and referral for treatment. Prepares to meet weekly with the Chief of Staff for the presentation, discussion and review of international patient cases. Coordinates the triage and screening of patients seeking care from foreign countries, including but not limited to, collecting and arranging for receipt of all medical records, radiology, operative reports and photos pertaining to the child s diagnosis and condition. Seeks medical staff, provider and surgeon review and recommendations towards the proposed acceptance or denial of an international application for care. Collaborates with the care management team and inter-disciplinary departments to prepare the care plan for the patient, including surgical and non-surgical care, and forecasted length of stay to execute that plan. Inquires with the scheduling departments for both clinic and surgery dates that will promote efficient and cost-effective appointment planning and implementation of care. Completes patient intake for accepted cases. Communicates with patient families and/or the referring sponsors the decisions of the Chief of Staff for accepted and denied cases on behalf of SHC-Tampa. Prepares VISA and Appointment letters, communicating scheduled surgery and clinic dates, and expected length of stay in the U.S. to accomplish the full plan of care. EDUCATION: Associates Degree in healthcare or related field - Required EXPERIENCE: Bilingual (Fluent in English and Spanish) - Required Hospital or Healthcare experience - preferred Pediatric experience preferred Proficient in MS Office Suite 2010
