Our Maternal Fetal Medicine Practice (Spring Lake - located near Dr. Phillips Hospital), is seeking a Certified Genetic Counselor. 

Position Summary

  • Assists in the treatment of patients and families with known genetic disorders, and of patients at risk for the development of these disorders.

Essential Functions

  • Provides assessment, diagnosis and counseling when necessary.
  • Intervenes as a crisis counselor in situations requiring genetic counseling.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Maintains required records, reports and files.
  • Attends meeting as required and participates on committees as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned area. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit /area /department policies and procedures.

Education/Training

  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling required

Licensure/Certification

  • Certified Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) – renewed every five years.
