The Project Manager oversees the planning, implementation, and tracking of a specific project which has a beginning, an end, and specified deliverables. This individual must have demonstrated organization, teamwork, and communication skills.
Essential Job Functions
- Research, develop, schedule, and implement work plans for projects
- Develop and complete forms and records to document project activities
- Interact with customers as well as electrical and mechanical engineers at the technical level, as required, and ensure that all project information is appropriately documented
- Create project reports for management and for funders
- Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements
- Monitor and approve budgeted project expenditures and manage project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures
- Monitor profitability projections and report actual and variance to senior management on a regular basis (monthly)
- Ensure that all financial records for the project are up to date
- Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality
- Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (including physical and work environment)
- Knowledge of project management
- Proficiency in the use of computers for MS Office products, email, the internet, basic accounting, business systems and portals such as GenServe or GenConnect, project management software (i.e., Gantt charts),
- Demonstrated skills with project management tools and methodologies, software platforms, and problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to meet stated customer initiated deadlines
- Communicate effectively: speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
- Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
- Foster teamwork: work cooperatively and effectively with others (internal and external) to set goals, resolve the problem, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Lead: positively influence all persons supporting projects to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization
- Make Decisions: Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
- Solve problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
- Project Managers usually work in an office environment but the purpose of the project may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces, including but not limited to industrial areas that may require use of personal protective equipment and may create exposure to non-climate controlled environments
- Project Managers work a standard work week but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to meet project milestones
Minimum Job Qualifications (education, work experience, licenses/certifications)
- University Degree in a related subject, and 2(+) years’ project planning, OR 4(+) years’ experience as a full-time project manager
