Director of Development (Individual Giving).  Full time benefited position.  This is a front-line fundraising position. The Director of Individual Giving is responsible for managing a portfolio of individual donors and prospects and moving them through the gift cycle. Working with the Vice President of Development, the Director of Individual Giving will create and execute both short-term and long-term strategies for increasing contributed and earned revenue streams while building sustainable relationships for Orlando Science Center. The Director of Individual Giving will have primary responsibility for leading Orlando Science Center’s annual giving efforts, setting strategy and executing fundraising plans for sustaining and growing the number of annual donors, creating a robust donor pipeline and converting annual donors to major gift donors in support of the Unlock Science Campaign priorities.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Manage a dynamic prospect portfolio, building and maintaining strategic relationships with individuals in order to move them through the gift cycle.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow membership in the Innovators leadership giving society. Initiate and solicit gifts with a focus on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual prospects with the potential to make annual gifts $1,000 or more. Ensure high level of stewardship and engagement for Innovators.
  • Develop and implement annual giving strategies, programs and campaigns, working closely with the Development Coordinator on the End-of-Year Appeal, Giving Tuesday, the United Arts Campaign and other targeted solicitation throughout the year.
  • Work closely with Vice President to develop and implement strategies to grow the Unlock Science Campaign donor pipeline. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts in support of the Unlock Science Campaign priorities.
  • Play lead Development role and work with the events team to plan and execute annual events targeted toward individuals including but not limited to the Inspiring Innovation Gala, the Inspire Science breakfast, and donor stewardship events and experiences.
  • Ensure reporting requirements are completed in timely and accurate manner; utilize automated systems for tracking and reporting; develop and maintain prospect lists in donor database.  Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communications.
  • Monitor revenue and expenses related to Individual Giving and support the Vice President in areas of Development reporting.
  • Oversee one full time Development Specialist and one part time Development Coordinator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of Individual Giving experience with demonstrated accomplishment in the acquisition of gifts from individuals, including face-to-face solicitation experience.
  • The demonstrated ability to strategize, cultivate, solicit and close gifts of five and six figures and above, and reach annual fundraising goals and targets.
  • General understanding of tax and other aspects of planned giving vehicles; ability to recognize and cultivate planned giving prospects; experience soliciting, structuring and closing planned gifts preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills; demonstrably strong planning and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work both independently to collaborate with others for productive outcomes.
  • Superb judgment in all areas related to frontline fundraising.
  • Exceptional interpersonal capabilities in order to partner seamlessly with Orlando Science Center’s leadership, staff, and high-level volunteers in order to meet increasing fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with appreciation for the importance of complete protection of the privacy of donors and prospects.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills. Proficiency in Tessitura or a similar constituent database.
  • Experience working with a non-profit educational or social service agency.
  • Knowledge and involvement in the local community.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
