Mears Transportation, in business for over 75 years, is the largest motor coach operation in Central Florida is looking to hire a Bus Wash Supervisor to work at our Orlando, FL location.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of the Bus Wash Manager, acts as a working supervisor and oversees the daily activities of bus washers. Also required to perform various tasks including washing the exterior and cleaning the interior of vehicles, (primarily buses), policing surrounding areas, picking up and dropping off parts and materials and checking and replenishing vehicle fluid levels.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the daily activities of bus washers. Assigns tasks to bus washers and controls the work flow through the bus cleaning process. Monitors bus washer performance and reports performance problems to Bus Wash Manager. Has operational authority to suspend bus washers from their assignments for violation of policy and procedures if necessary. Reports to Bus Wash manager any shift problems or concerns and recommends solutions to problem areas. Tracks chemical and supply usage and requests replenishments from shop manager. Monitors security of chemical and cleaning material storage areas. Carries out new job assignments as dictated by wash manager. Attends supervisory meetings as required. Assists wash manager in designing and implementing bus washing procedures to keep up with fleet demands. Acts as working supervisor and performs following tasks as non-supervisory time permits: moving vehicles to and from parking areas and wash bays or racks and through wash racks and/or cleaning stations; measuring and mixing water and cleanser solutions according to recommended proportions; washing exterior of vehicles using water, cleansers, brushes, sponges, etc.; removing excess moisture with chamois or other absorbent cloth; polishing trim using polish, wax or other compounds; waxing or polishing painted surfaces with appropriate compounds; cleaning interior of vehicle including rest rooms, windows, trim, instrument panels, carpets, etc. using broom, cloth, mop, vacuum cleaner, whisk broom and appropriate cleansing materials; removing dust, grease, asphalt, concrete, etc. from exterior of vehicle using steam-cleaning equipment, or appropriate solvents; fumigating vehicles with gases or sprays as needed. May also deliver inter-office messages, small equipment, parts, materials, supplies or other items between departments, and check and replenish fluid. Also may be required to set up and tear down tables and chairs in offices and shops, and perform minor maintenance and repair functions on the bus wash, including hanging cabinets or signs, repairing minor damage to buildings, etc. Also may be required to perform other related duties as requested.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:  No formal education required.
  • Experience:  Six months of practical experience as a porter, vehicle washer or detailer is preferred. Some supervisor experience also preferred.
  • Skill at:  Cleaning vehicles, office buildings and shops; checking vehicle fluid levels.
  • Knowledge of:  Use of cleaning equipment, supplies, materials, machines; and safe work practices.
  • Licenses:  Valid Florida drivers license with a good driving record, i.e. must have fewer than the following number of points on his/her motor vehicle record for the previous 1, 2, and 3 years respectively: 3 points, 6 points, and 9 points.
  • Special Requirements:  Must be able to safely operate motor vehicles, especially buses.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to obtain access of interior and exterior surfaces of vehicle with vehicle in any position.
  • Must be able to safely operate motor vehicles, especially buses, for moving vehicles to and from parking areas and wash bays or racks.
  • Must be able to sustain a work load consisting of exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally (occurring up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently (occurring 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly (occurring 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
  • Must be able to comprehend and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Must also be able to perform operations with units such as ounces, pounds, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons for measuring and/or mixing of cleansers, solvents, etc.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend safety rules, warning labels and instructions in the safe use and handling of cleansers, solvents, chemicals or other shop materials, tools, equipment or supplies.
  • Must be able to use body members, hand tools and/or special devices to work or move objects or materials.
