The Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida invites applicants to apply for the position of Fleet Auto Body Specialist.

JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinates and assists in the painting and body repair of agency vehicles. Performs auto body damage/repair estimates utilizing appropriate software.  Performs general clerical duties to include typing, entering data into Data Works system, maintaining daily vehicle logs, and documenting monthly vehicle repairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past two years, all other usage will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Three (3) years automotive related experience and/or training; two (2) years must be in writing auto body damage estimates.
  • Ability to coordinate and assist in paint and body repair of agency vehicles; install agency vehicle graphics and details; have strong working knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license. Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving an agency vehicle. Use of an agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing the agency’s biennial driver’s physical exam.
  • Must be comfortable with regular exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions; frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional vibration; minimal exposure to bodily fluid and/or blood occurrences; a loud work environment; constant body movement and regularly lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting/moving more than 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly changing priorities and schedules; above average organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to evaluate accident damage to agency vehicles and determine if the vehicle is totaled or repairable; utilize appropriate software to perform auto body damage/repair estimates; request parts and materials as necessary; apply basic math skills to perform calculations. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and primary Fleet representative for the agency’s Crash Review Committee (CRC).
  • Must be able to coordinate repairs of agency vehicles with outside vendors and perform quality control checks on outside repairs to ensure agency standards are met.
  • Must be able to create, update, maintain, and close all work orders that are generated by Fleet Management; verify that technicians have entered in the correct repair codes and all labor/parts listed match up with the repair codes; sublet vendor invoices; check vehicle mileage for accuracy and ensure all preventative maintenance services are updated.
  • Ability to utilize basic computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and database applications (e.g., typing, data entry, use automotive estimating software, maintain daily vehicle logs, and document monthly vehicle repairs).
  • Ability to demonstrate good communication skills and provide excellent customer service to agency members and vendors in person and over the phone; present information to others.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate self-initiative.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must complete Forklift Operator certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (e.g., safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals); write reports and correspondences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Estimating certification.

SALARY:  $16.15/hr. -  $20.00/hr. (depending on years of experience).
