TRANSCRIPTIONIST
POSITION: Transcriptionist
RESPONSIBLE TO: Medical Records Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: Ensure incoming transcripts are imported into the correct patient’s chart. Transcribe voice files as necessary.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Detail oriented
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong listening skills
- Proficient using email and word processing software
- 2+ years orthopaedic transcription experience preferred
- Ability to transcribe 75+ words per minute
- Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform well in stressful situations
- Neat, professional appearance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage the Transcription Role for assigned physician(s) / physician assistant(s) within 2-3 days from the date of service
- Transcribe assigned voice files (STATs within 1 hour of notice)
- Complete incomplete transcripts received from the outsourcing companies
- Correct transcripts as necessary, provide feedback to Lead Transcriptionist
- Edit, revise, and clarify notes without altering the meaning of the dictation
- Notify Lead Transcriptionist or Supervisor if unable to process any request
- Notify Lead Transcriptionist of any missing dictation(s)/transcript(s)
- Manage messages/emails, processing STAT requests in order of their priority
Additional support tasks
- Help monitor/manage Team emails/messages, if applicable
- Handle department calls, if applicable
- Help other transcriptionists as requested by Lead Transcriptionist or Supervisor
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities
Typical Physical Demands
- Position requires extended sitting, continuous use of keyboard and earphones
- Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment is also required
- Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports
- Employee will work under stressful conditions
