Maintenance Assistant - Altamonte Springs Campus

 

Annual Salary is $21,144 to $22,465 and may be commensurate with education and experience exceeding the minimum required qualifications.

Description: 
Performs semi-skilled and unskilled manual tasks related to the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds, equipment, and appliances. Assists journey-level workers in a variety of crafts to install, repair, maintain, and otherwise care for buildings, fixtures, equipment, and grounds.

Essential Functions:
1. Assists in making minor repairs to and installing equipment or small appliances in buildings.
2. Safely operates common hand and machine tools in installation, maintenance, repair, and refinishing work.
3. Performs heavy labor and semiskilled manual tasks involved in helping journey-level workers in a variety of crafts.
4. Performs tasks such as carrying, moving, and delivering supplies and equipment. Requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance, ability to climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop and walk some distances.
5. Performs routine and preventive maintenance.
6. May prepare surfaces for painting or refinishing.
7. May operate power equipment such as trucks, lifts, skip loaders, pneumatic tools, saws, drills, sanders, landscaping tools and other items.
8. Performs all duties as may be required or assigned.                                        

Required Quailifications:
1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. A minimum of six months of paid experience performing semi-skilled or unskilled manual tasks.
3. Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain a Florida license within 30 days.
4. Valid Class "C" driver's license.


Desired Qualifications:
1. Experience working in a maintenance position in a commercial environment.
2. Experience operating power equipment for grounds or building maintenance.

1. Understanding of practices, processes, and materials used in building, maintenance, and construction.
2. Knowledge of proper methods for lifting and moving heavy objects.
3. Knowledge of safety practices common to building, maintenance, and construction.
4. Knowledge of safety requirements for handling toxic or hazardous materials.
5. Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks involved in assisting a journey-level worker in various trades.
6. Ability to safely operate tools and machines common to building trades.
7. Ability to perform sustained heavy labor.
8. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
10. Ability to work in more than one trade area, as directed.
11. Ability to learn general and specialized software applications.

• Final hire/appointment of a candidate offered employment in this position is contingent upon the
candidate's successful completion of a job-related physical ability assessment.
• Current employees may be referred for a job-related physical ability assessment or reassessment upon their supervisor’s recommendation and subsequent approval by the Office of Human Resources, or upon the recommendation of the Office of Human Resources.

1. Works both in an inside and outside environment with exposure to various weather conditions.

3. Must wear protective gear when required.

6. May be required to travel between campuses.
