Manager - Marketing Design

HMH is looking for Manager Design.  As a senior member of the Design team for HMH’s new in-house creative agency, you’ll help to bring new strategic marketing campaigns to life. Reporting to our Design Director, you will manage creative concepting for new campaign launches as well as a team of designers.

Primary Responsibilities

People Manager

• Enable and empower people to do their best work in an environment that encourages collaboration and innovation and fosters development and learning.
• Translate the company’s strategic vision, align group’s work, and help individuals understand their impact on HMH’s success.
• Assess direct reports’ performance and partner on career planning.
• Collaborate and be a catalyst, breaking down complex problems into simple solutions and leading through change.

Design

• Conceive of, design, and produce a compelling marketing campaigns to strengthen campaign messaging, draw the reader into the content and distinguish HMH from its competitors.
• Manage a team of designers, overseeing new campaigns and assigning creative projects, ensuring an innovative yet consistent look that adheres to and supports HMH’s visual identity and overall aesthetic.
• Exercise judgment and project management skills to balance priorities and communicate to teams to meet and exceed project deadlines and commitments; keep internal clients and account management informed of projects and progress.
• Mentor and manage designers to improve their team of designers design aesthetics and career development, recommending professional learning opportunities, implementing creative critique best practices, and resolving any issues.
• Coordinates any external photography and illustration work needed for a given project, including creating or reviewing shot lists, coordinating contracts, etc.
• Stays on top of digital and design best practices to continually enhance their own design skills and expertise.xxxx

Education and Experience

• Bachelors degree in graphic design or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in graphic design
• Experience designing for B2B solutions (education publishing industry preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator; willingness and ability to create an elegant, designed “feel” in programs such as PPT and Word that were not written primarily as design vehicles
• Proven track record in developing compelling creative work for complex clients and businesses
• Experience developing strong client relationships
• Speed and agility; ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure, developing creative design within tight deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Expertise in digital channels and marketing

Physical Requirements

• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
