Pharmacy Assistant
Position: Pharmacy Assistant
Responsible To: Pharmacy Supervisor
Job Summary: As a Pharmacy Assistant - assist the Pharmacy Team prepare prescribed medications, including entering patient demographics into the pharmacy software system, labeling medications, and providing the prepared medication(s) to the prescribing physician for dispensing.
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma required
Qualifications & Experience:
- At least one year of experience in clinical assisting; orthopaedic clinical assisting preferred
- At least one year of experience in retail pharmacy setting preferred
- Proficient using email and word processing software
- Knowledge of electronic health record software and digital imaging software preferred
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
- Good communication skills
- Neat, professional appearance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Pharmacy Support
- Receive written/electronic prescriptions from EMR and prepare the medication as prescribed by the physician
- Confirm the information on the prepared medication is complete, accurate, and matches what was prescribed
- Enter patient demographics into the pharmacy software system, ensuring accuracy of information entered
- Provide prepared medication(s) to the corresponding physician for verification, signature, and dispensing
- Ensure the security and proper storage of all medications is maintained
- Perform general clerical duties, such as answering phones, processing payments, etc.
- Process patient medication requests in accordance with company policy
Other
- Maintain patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintain detailed knowledge of computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attend CPR and OSHA training programs as required
- Maintain certifications and registrations per state guidelines
- Attend all regular meetings
- Perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the Manager or Physician
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment

Typical Physical Demands
Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. May involve prolonged standing and walking for entire shift, Shift may extend over 8 hours in a given day. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours. Employee will be exposed to bio hazard materials on a regular basis.
Typical Working Conditions
Employee will have some exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances (i.e. cleaning products), medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
