How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

This position will be responsible for coordinating and executing tax processing tasks for Brighthouse Financials Tax Department, including assembling, filing (both paper and electronic), scanning, and tracking tax returns, estimates, and extensions. Other tax processing duties include requesting and coordinating the receipt of payments from Brighthouse Financial Accounts Payable for tax filings, and accepting, processes, and tracking refund payments from various taxing authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of state and local tax returns in accordance with current laws and interpretations
  • Analyzes and pays tax assessments in a timely manner
  • Maintains a detailed log of all tax filings for management reports
  • Assist in state and local tax audits
  • Monitors state and local developments and notifies management accordingly
  • Prepares simple and assist in the preparation of complex Statutory and GAAP provisions
  • Meets financial reporting and statutory compliance deadlines
  • Scheduling and maintaining calendars for multiple individuals including appointments and meetings
  • Assisting in organizing documents and maintaining files, including various Committees records and materials
  • Organizing meal ordering and deliveries during peak periods and for meetings
  • Managing a wide range of administrative support tasks and providing general administrative assistance as necessary
  • Review correspondence in shared mailbox and distribute to the appropriate individual for handling

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 3+ years of administrative experience simultaneously supporting multiple individuals including off-site partners and/or 1-3 years of experience in a tax or accounting department
  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred
  • Must have good oral, written communication skills, analytical and interpersonal skills. As well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Requires knowledge of computer systems. PCs and associated software packages
  • Requires a high degree of professionalism, sound judgement and discretion in contacts with management
  • Strong capacity to manage own performance independently and effectively, exhibiting excellent time management, strong organization and detail orientation
  • Ability to identify and articulate issues, research and offer solutions and the commitment/tenacity to follow-through to resolution
  • Demonstrate tact, high level of integrity, capacity for discreetly handling sensitive and confidential information as well as the ability to maintain professionalism under pressure
  • Highly collaborative, positive and team focused
