Health Central Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care in the Surgery Department.

Education/Training

  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing. BSN or current national certification in area of practice required (CNOR, CRNFA).

  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education.

  • Meets all mandatory and developmental requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current RN license in the State of Florida renewed every two years.

  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.

  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.

Experience

Two (2) years Surgery RN experience required

Essential Functions

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses the data reflective of the patients status and interprets the necessary information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.

Serves as a preceptor, mentor, or super user. Serves as a coach in evaluating and validating colleagues clinical judgment. Comfortable seeking multidisciplinary consultation.

Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards.

Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Standards of Care and Practice.

Practices effective problem identification and resolution. Collects and interprets complex patient data. Focuses on key elements of situation while sorting out extraneous details.

Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patients needs and the team members capabilities and qualifications.

Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition to other health care team members.

Collects and assesses patient health data guided by the application of knowledge of physiological and psychological principles and experience, which is essential to establishing a nursing diagnosis and predicting outcomes. Pertinent data include, but are not limited to:

o Current medical diagnoses and therapies

o Physical status and physiological responses

o Psychosocial status of the patient

o Cultural, spiritual, and lifestyle information

o The individuals understanding, perceptions, and expectations of the procedure

o Previous responses to illness, hospitalizations, and surgical, therapeutic, or diagnostic procedures; and

o Results of diagnostic studies

Identifies expected outcomes unique to the patient. Outcomes should include, but are not limited to:

o Absence of infection

o Maintenance of skin integrity

o Absence of adverse effects through proper use of safety measures related to positioning, extraneous objects, and chemical, physical, and electrical hazards

o Maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance

o Knowledge of the patient and significant others of the physiological and psychological responses to surgical intervention; and

o Participation of the patient and significant others in the rehabilitation process

Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. Examples of interventions performed include, but are not limited to:

o Provision of information and supportive Perioperative teaching specifically related to the surgical intervention and nursing care. Preserves and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity and rights of the patient.

o Identification of the patient

o Verification of the surgical site

o Verification of the operative consent and reports of essential diagnostic procedures

o Positioning according to physiological principles

o Adherence to principles of asepsis

o Provision of appropriate and properly functioning equipment and supplies for the patient

o Provision for comfort measures and supportive care to the patient

o Environmental monitoring and safety

o Evaluation of outcomes in relation to the identified interventions, and

o Communication of intraoperative information to significant others and the health care team to provide for continuity of care

o Maintains a safe and caring environment for the patient

o Manages both emotional and physical pain and promotes comfort based on standards and protocols
