JOB SUMMARY

Grant position, annual contract. Assists and engages with tourists and the public in the tourist corridor while providing a visible presence. Also assists law enforcement in the tourist corridor by responding to non-violent crimes or calls for service that do not traditionally require the service of a sworn deputy sheriff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past two years, all other usage will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Accredited high school or GED diploma.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license. Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency bi-annual driver's physical exam.
  • Ability to obtain CPR Certification and Parking Enforcement Certification within one year of employment.
  • May have to acquire FCIC/NCIC Certification within one year of employment.
  • Must be willing to successfully complete an OCSO radio training program as soon as possible.
  • Must have the ability to become bike and Segway certified. The employee is frequently required to ride a Segway or a bicycle.
  • Ability to provide courteous assistance to tourists and the public in the tourist corridor. May act as a liaison between the public, victims, hotel managers, and various government entities while providing
  • Ability to assist law enforcement at crime scenes or by responding to calls as needed. This may include interviewing victims, taking statements, and assisting with traffic control functions.
  • Ability to complete required paperwork and to write reports and/or create various logs/statistical reports.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • May be required to appear in court.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous law enforcement experience.
  • Bilingual

PROCESSING & TRAINING

  • Upon selection, must be able to pass a medical examination and psychological evaluation.
  • If selected, Hepatitis B shot and infectious disease training within ten (10) working days of date of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to ride a Segway or a bicycle. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to ride a Segway or bicycle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may be subjected to inclement weather. The employee is exposed to various terrain while riding a bicycle/Segway or on foot patrol. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. Depending on location, the employee may be required to utilize and/or maintain assigned equipment such as uniforms, marked vehicles, and radios. Employee may be required to work irregular hours to include some evenings, weekends, or holidays. Must be flexible with your work schedule. Minimal exposure to bodily fluids and/or blood may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
