The highly qualified Trial Clerk we seek:
- performs office and clerical work performed in and out of the courtroom consisting of increasingly detailed work assignments with assistance and supervision.
- is time-critical, and work must be performed efficiently and accurately to meet court requirements and schedules.
- will be required to perform essential duties and responsibilities of the position and spend the majority of their time, at least 50 percent, in the courtroom or hearing room.
- has flexibility to work unscheduled overtime based on the needs of the court, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Requirements for the Trial Clerk position:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, one (1) year general office experience and effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Plan, organize and perform a variety of clerical functions.
- Maintain efficient and effective work methods and procedures.
- Use mathematical skills necessary to perform numerical calculations.
- Effectively use business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Learn, recite, and administer various required oaths.
- Basic knowledge of courtroom terminology and ability to learn complex courtroom terminology.
- Strong commitment to the organizations mission, value and ethics, including honesty and integrity. Respect and properly maintain confidential records.
- Understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Use of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Compose various types of correspondence and court documents with limited assistance.
- Ability to interact professionally and develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Judiciary, Judicial Assistants, legal community, superiors, coworkers, general public, and other court and work related agencies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of applicable state statutes, rules, regulations, laws and ordinances, and general knowledge of various motions to be heard.
- Operate a computer keyboard using standard and specialized software applications, and other office equipment used within the division and in the courtroom.
- Work in a fast-paced, automated environment which experiences many interruptions.
- Sit for long periods of time.
A preferred candidate will have previous deputy clerk experience, one (1) year relevant experience at a law firm, State Attorney Office, Corrections, or similar organization; or who have a two year degree in criminal justice, legal studies, public administration or relevant field.
