DME Athletic Trainer
POSITION: Athletic Trainer (Full- time)
RESPONSIBLE TO: DME Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: In depth knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. Knowledgeable regarding many types of Orthopaedic braces and devices. Verify patient DME benefits with all commercial insurance carriers for high end DME. Obtain authorization from Worker’s Compensation carriers regarding high end DME and for all insurance carriers.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training or related field
- NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer
- Florida License in Athletic Training
- CPR/AED certified
- NPI number
- Valid Florida driver’s license
- Must pass level 2 finger printing process
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1 to 3 years work experience as an Athletic Trainer
- Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of practice management and electronic health record software
- Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service a must
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Fitting patient’s with a wide variety of Orthopaedic braces and devices
- Maintains communication among the Physicians, DME Supervisor, A/R department, Physician Teams, and patient at all times
- Must be available to drive to all Orlando Orthopaedic Center locations as dictated by ATC work schedule
- Be able to work in a fast paced clinical environment
- Be able to create and demonstrate a Home Exercise Program for patient’s based on Orthopaedic injuries/Orthopaedic surgeries
- Be able to verify DME benefits for all commercial insurance carriers pertaining to high end DME and or obtain authorization from Worker’s Compensation carriers for high end DME
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Responsible for contacting patient to pick-up surgery DME as directed by the DME Supervisor
- Responsible for returning patient telephone calls; ensures action taken is document appropriately in the patient chart
- Responsible for tracking all DME items ordered, dispensed daily, weekly and monthly for their OOC location as directed by the DME Supervisor
- Responsible for filling out the patient’s Proof of Delivery and or ABN with the appropriate billing codes and associated charges
- Responsible for obtaining patient signature on Proof of Delivery and or ABN acknowledging receipt of DME product and or patient declining the DME product at that time
- Assist DME Supervisor with semi-annual DME inventory for all OOC locations
General Administration
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management, electronic health record and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attends continuing education courses as requested
- Completes all other duties as assigned by the DME Supervisor
- Work hours coincide with Orlando Orthopaedic Center’s clinical operating hours

Typical Physical Demands
Work requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally with frequent lifting between 5-10 pounds. Work requires the ability to sit, stoop, crouch and kneel as needed during job responsibilities. Position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, calculator, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary. Position also requires viewing computer screens and typing for long periods of time, and working in an environment which may be stressful. Position could require occasional travel.
