Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsible for the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 3,500 miles of pipeline, over 9,000 fire hydrants, and 700 wastewater pump stations.

Field Services Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Industrial Mechanic I & II. This position is responsible for tool and heavy equipment repair as well as large pump station repairs, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance.


Representative Duties


Industrial Mechanic I

Performs mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on pumping systems, blowers, gearboxes and mechanical drive systems, in a major industrial plant environment or the water and wastewater field with multiple critical processes. Installs new pumps and piping as needed to repair and update obsolete equipment. Performs routine maintenance on valves, seals, and motors.

Maintains and repairs chlorine delivery systems including vacuum systems, gauges, and pressure relief equipment. Rebuilds regulators replacing gaskets and mechanical parts as needed.

Industrial Mechanic II

Troubleshoots and repairs heavy industrial, water and wastewater processing equipment. Replaces bearings align motors and pumps to minimize vibration and stresses. Replaces seals, bushings, and other mechanical parts. Routinely rebuilds and repair pumps. Performs preventative and predictive maintenance on all pumps, motors and mechanical process equipment. Welds and rebuild surfaces to repair damaged equipment. Pressurizes and tests piping system in gas, water, fuel and fluid systems. Performs as a lead mechanic, organizing and supervising major overhauls and repairs projects. Plans jobs and assigns duties as needed

Maintains and repairs chlorine delivery systems including vacuum systems, gauges, and pressure relief equipment. Rebuilds regulators replacing gaskets and mechanical parts as needed. Maintains digester pumps piping, gauges, valves and filters in good working order

Trains staff in the repair and maintenance of the processing equipment related to the field

Work Schedule

Based on the needs of the Division, this position requires you work either: Ten (10) hours per day, four (4) days per week to include weekends and holidays or Eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week to include weekends and holidays.


Minimum Qualifications


Industrial Mechanic I

High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of mechanical experience in a major industrial complex or a water or wastewater treatment facility, to include experience in disassembly and repair of pumps, using lathes and other milling equipment in a machine shop environment, exposure to welding and fabrication skills to repair damaged equipment, experience in conducting repairs according to technical manuals and drawings and experience in the use of precision measuring equipment; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License with the ability to obtain a Florida Commercial Drivers License Permit. Applicant must submit proof of permit during pre-employment process.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class "B" within six (6) months of hire or promotion. Must present the CDL Class "B" Permit at the time of hire.

Knowledge of mechanical tools, drilling equipment and presses needed to undertake the various repair tasks. Knowledge off valves and valve repairs.

Must have the ability to conform to confined space entry procedures and use of safety equipment including respirator equipment per Orange County requirements.

Ability to follow instructions and work with minimum supervision.

Industrial Mechanic II

High School Diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience; mechanical experience in a major industrial complex or a water or wastewater treatment facility, to include experience in disassembly and repair of pumps, using lathes and other milling equipment in a machine shop environment, welding skills and experience in dynamic balancing, experience in conducting repairs according to technical manuals and drawings and extensive experience in the use of precision measuring equipment; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License with the ability to obtain a Florida Commercial Drivers License Permit. Applicant must submit proof of permit during pre-employment process.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class "B" within six (6) months of hire or promotion. Must present the CDL Class "B" Permit at the time of hire.

Equipment Skills Required

Operational experience with machine shop equipment, portable electric and pneumatic tools. Exposure to pumps and generators. Welding experience and exposure to heavy equipment operations.
