Position Summary:
The goal of the Rollins College Campus Safety Office is to be recognized as a national model in the field of campus safety through the selection and development of the highest caliber personnel and by providing innovative safety services.
As a relatively small department that is comprised of 24 staff members, we function in essentially 6 roles: Safety Officers, Supervision, Dispatch Personnel, Emergency Management and Planning, R-Card (I.D.) Management, and Administrative Staff. The role of the department is to protect life and property, preserve peace, recover lost/stolen property, perform support services, maintain a sense of community security and confidence, and ensure compliance with all college rules and regulations. Primary responsibilities include:
- Scheduling work assignment and shifts to ensure proper coverage of campus
- Evaluating the performance of campus safety officers and inspecting personnel for adherence to departmental standards
- Training new campus safety officers in policy and procedure
- Patrolling the campus to ensure protection of all campus faculty, staff, students, and visitors, as well as all campus buildings and structures
- Answering calls of both criminal and civil nature; addressing negative behavior appropriately
- Assisting and directing students, guests, and visitors on campus
- Assisting motorists, answering call for assistance, transporting students to hospitals, or emergency treatment facilities, and escorting students as requested
- Conducting appropriate training sessions for members of the campus community on safety related topics – AED, CPR, First Aid, etc
- Responsible for understanding and abiding by all guidelines associated with the Clery Act and Title IX
- Performing related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school education is required. Two year degree or other higher education is desirable
- Requires two to three years of job-related experience
- Ability to train, direct, and supervise the work of others
- Valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required
- Possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days
- Possess and maintain State of Florida "D" security license within 90 days of hire
- Demonstrated knowledge of modern safety/police practices and procedures
- Strong service orientation with a demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of and work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty and public.
- Ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems and dealing with the public, students, and staff.Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills sufficient to prepare security incident reports.
- Ability to work in demanding and stressful situations
- Flexible hours as needed
As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call-in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.
This position will work second shift (roughly 3:00pm to 11:00pm).
Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous situations; requires physical strain involving walking and standing for extended periods of time, requiring exposure to the elements; must be able to run short distance, walk a flight of stairs, lift up to 50 pounds. Overtime may be required as needed.
