The Laboratory Specialist is responsible for assisting management with compliance, business systems and quality.

Position Requirements:

Education/Training

  • Bachelor degree in Medical Technology.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current Florida license as a Medical Technologist certified in the specialty/specialties required by the laboratory section assigned renewed biannually.
  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) by American Society of Clinical Pathologists renewed annually.

Experience

  • Three (3) years laboratory experience.
  • Must understand the regulatory/accreditation requirements of the laboratory; be familiar with quality management, quality assurance and quality control principles; be familiar with computers for word processing, spreadsheets, data analysis and creation of graphs and charts. Requires self-motivation, resourcefulness, flexibility, self-discipline, good organizational skills and the ability to recognize the need for action when no directive may be given. Must have demonstrated leadership, communication (oral and written), problem solving and organizational ability.

Essential Functions

  • Works with the management team to support laboratory billing compliance activities and regulatory matters including HIPAA, CLIA, and the State of Florida laboratory regulations.
  • Has a thorough understanding of laboratory related billing and compliance regulations and supports the outreach client billing functions.

  • Assigned key projects to improve operations and processes to process orders to complete the billing requirements.
  • Responsible for the LIS client accounting module for the outreach client accounts.
  • Reviews daily accounts and follows up on delinquent data reports.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and timeliness of services provided by the laboratory to assure that they meet regulatory and accreditation requirements and meet customer needs and department policy standards.
  • Works with management to develop, implement and coordinate QC, QA and continuous improvement activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining the quality program for the laboratory and represents the laboratory in all accreditation inspections.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of operating processes and proposes necessary changes.
  • Performs internal systems and process audits, trends and interprets data, reviews and maintains records and oversees the proficiency testing program.
