Progressive Home is growing and were looking for experienced Catastrophe Field Staff Adjusters to join our talented team. This is a work from home position with deployments to affected areas. Our deployments are for up to 20 days followed by 8 days off. When not actively deployed adjusters might be doing a variety of things from handling CAT claims remotely, helping out other units or possibly handling a loss local to their home. We are looking for adjusters who can do it all and maximize their potential.

Ensures claims are fairly and accurately investigated and evaluated in accordance with established timelines, customer service standards, and quality standards. Responsible for coverage and damages analysis of property claims, which includes the ability to negotiate and complete settlements fairly and equitably with all parties.


  • Inspects, photographs, measures, sketches, and assesses damages to Property (homes) involved in various types of losses such as partial fire, total fire, water damage, wind damage, flood damage, hail, and vandalism. Requires travel
    • Assess and accurately determine the style of construction, ages of materials in, grade/quality of the materials, size of materials/appliances, specifications of appliances
  • Determines the extent of the property (home) loss estimating the cost to repair, replace, or compensation
  • Identifies additional exposures such as Personal Property/Contents, Additional Living Expense, Mold, Ordinance related to a property loss and appropriately assesses the damages and resolved the exposure
  • Quickly identify the need to engage water mitigation experts to reduce property damage costs;
    • Negotiate with water mitigation companies to secure the necessary services at an appropriate cost
  • Interpret the various homeowner's policies including HO3, HO5, HO6, and DP3, forms in force, and other records to determine insurance coverage and limits of coverage for any loss;
    • Interpret these policies for all states coverage may be written in for Load Level claims in other states
  • Direct assignments to IA'S, follow-up to review their work, approve & adjust their estimates
  • Identifies the need to hire or engage various vendors to assist in assessing damage, determining cause of loss and to assist with limiting loss to customer property;
    • Negotiate the necessary services at a reasonable price;
    • Types of vendor include engineers, mold remediation companies, water mitigation companies; cause and origin experts
  • Effectively manages relationships with Public Adjusters and Attorneys to negotiate and resolve clams for our insureds;
  • Proactively communicates and sets expectations with customers; focuses on an expeditious resolution of the claim to minimize additional living expenses and move customers home to pre-loss condition timely
    • Communication may include interviewing to obtain necessary facts to assess coverage and liability, providing updates on claim status, damages, payments, vendor assignment, and claim denials when coverage may not apply
  • Identifies and communicates potential underwriting concerns to ensure policies are accurately rated
  • Sets appropriate case reserves; revises case reserves in assigned files to cover probable costs
  • Prepares report of findings and negotiates settlement
    • Prepares settlement letters, denial letters, Reservation of Rights, and other letters as needed
    • Writes clear and concise diary notes, uses the Special Handling area, sets field assignments, sets and saves contacts, and makes payments
    • Recognizes the need for SIU involvement and identifies files for potential subrogation
  • Effectively manages pending files in accordance with Claims Best Practices.
  • Appropriately applies knowledge of multiple state statutes, including the insurance code of ethics, rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Determines whether a file has a valid Assignment of Benefits and handles accordingly
  • Sets mediation or appraisal when needed
  • Discusses strategies and attends litigation triage meetings, mediations, and Examinations under Oath when appropriate


  • Bachelor's degree; four years of prior work experience with a history of high performance within financial services, customer service, construction, property management, or related field; or some combination thereof.
  • Minimum one year of claims experience required. Property and casualty experience helpful.
  • Experience preparing repair estimates in Xactimate or another software package required
  • Intermediate knowledge of residential construction, roofing, and repair techniques strongly preferred.
  • Adjuster License required in applicable states
  • Travel Required

  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, 7 days per week with 12-hour shifts for major catastrophes, and overtime as needed for claim spikes.
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly, pay attention to details, think through problems logically, apply high-school-level math skills, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Demonstrates integrity.
  • Possesses strong English vocabulary, basic grammar skills, and professional decorum. Writing is clear and easy-to-read. Bi-lingual skills helpful.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates active listening skills through effective use of questions, reflection, and empathy.
  • Demonstrates a bias toward exceptional customer service; experience providing customer service preferred.
  • Possesses strengths in negotiation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to get along with work associates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word required. Proficiency in Excel preferred.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of insurance and adjusting.
  • Experience handling a variety of claim perils preferred.


  • Possess the physical ability to travel to impacted areas during major catastrophes, for day-to-day field work, attend hearings, Examinations Under Oath, mediations, and trainings
  • Ability to load and unload equipment as well as bend, walk, and climb for several consecutive hours while inspecting damaged property. Ability to claim ladders and inspect damage at high levels (on roofs)
  • Lifting - must have the ability to move and/or lift 50lbs
  • Exposure to chemicals, smells, equipment, noise and other work conditions found in and around homes damage by wind/fire/water and other situations
  • Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Computer use requiring repetitive extremity movement, reaching forward, grasping, finger and wrist manipulation, and neck bending and turning; near vision is necessary for computer use
