The Research Scientist is responsible for leading and conducting independent research. May provide guidance to other support staff in the performance of protocol specific tasks.
PhD or MD
Knowledge of all regulatory requirements that pertain to clinical/medical research
Proficiency in research and the regulatory environment as evidenced by published research and peer-reviewed work.
Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required. Must have the ability to work effectively with
staff, faculty and internal/external collaborators.
Seven (7) years of research experience working in area of expertise.
Leads day-to-day research activities; provides oversight, special training and acts as internal resource through interaction with
technical personnel while gathering, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
Exercises considerable imagination, initiative, and inventiveness in planning and executing the details of experiments, and in
evaluating and interpreting the results.
Exercises independent thinking and judgment in the absence of established protocols and procedures.
Responsible for major participation in the development and revision of techniques.
Serves as Principal, Co-Principal or Sub-Investigator on grants and contracts.
Provides oversight and special training to technical personnel, and/or highly technical work in medical and related research
projects as assigned or delegated.
Responsible for research protocol planning and IRB submissions.
Develops scientific presentations and publishes data in peer-reviewed journals.
Fosters and supports external/internal academic and research collaborations.
May oversee the work of post-doctoral fellows, research associates, clinical research coordinators, and laboratory team members.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state
and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
Performs other research or experimental tasks in the field of specialization that reflect in terms of difficulty the level of experience and training required for the position.
Participates in resident and graduate student education as appropriate. Assists in the design process of developing appropriate
facilities to conduct research and development.
Establishes and maintains an open communication process throughout the corporation that reaches patients, visitors, families,
physicians, and team members such that each feels that they are treated special each time they encounter Orlando Health.
