As the Engineering Compliance Manager at FARO, you will be responsible for managing all engineering related regulatory and compliance processes and procedures, as well as addressing any regulatory issues that may arise. The range of products that FARO creates, as well as the breadth of countries that FARO sells these products into, creates a challenging array of regulations and worldwide compliance specifications that must be adhered to. The Engineering Compliance Manager will work with globally based Engineering teams during all phases of the design cycle to ensure that products will comply with worldwide standards. It is essential that as the Engineering Compliance Manager you develop and manage the compliance process, as well as communicate with engineering and service teams throughout the US and the world.

The person must provide global regulatory compliance support relating to, but not limited to:

  • EMC and wireless
  • Energy efficiencies
  • Environmental
  • Product safety
  • Restricted and conflict materials
  • Extended producer responsibility


A list of compliance items that must be considered includes, but is not limited to:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Lithium ion batteries
  • Power supplies & cords
  • Laser safety
  • Machine safety
  • Unintended emissions
  • Environmental (Water & dust resistance)

You have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • At least five years of experience dealing with global regulatory compliance issues
  • Experience in bringing products through a global compliance process, dealing with a variety of testing labs and regulatory agencies

 

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of Engineering and Quality methods
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, and optical systems and equipment

 

How you will make a difference @ FARO:

  • Develop and manage effective processes and procedures relating to product compliance
  • Communicate with engineering teams to ensure that the processes and procedures are fully understood and are being followed
  • Act as the Engineering interface (liaison) to rest of the organization (supply chain, operations, product marketing, sales etc.) on product compliance for both existing product as well as new products
  • Review engineering designs and design requirements, as well as develop new product compliance and test requirements, to ensure new products are fully compliant to current and pending global regulations
  • Manage the regulatory testing schedule for new designs to ensure all Agency approvals are completed
  • Obtain and manage any regulatory compliance documents needed, and file all needed regulatory documentation
  • Ensure all products have the correct labeling and markings, and that all user manuals and documentation have the appropriate notifications, warnings, and disclosures
  • Keep engineering teams abreast of changing and updated regulations, and advise on the best way to manage the transition to these new regulations
  • Continuously identify parts and components that are currently used, but are now out of spec because of updated regulations

 

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk and communicate, use hands/fingers, feel and reach with arms.  This position requires the ability bend or stoop as necessary and frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Behavior/Relationship Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to effectively interface with several engineering teams located in the US as well as Europe
  • Initiative to identify, propose, and manage improvements to processes and design
  • Ability to organize thoughts and convey them clearly to large teams through written procedures
  • Desire to learn complex mechanical, optical, and electronic systems
  • Willingness to work with various teams and take on an expanding set of tasks
  • Project management skills needed to manage multiple assignments and tasks

 

Travel

In order to fully support all of our engineering teams during all phases of the product design cycle, some travel is required. A willingness to travel to our design centers as well as various testing agencies is needed. The amount of travel will vary, but it may be up to 20% of your time.
