Chief Engineer
SUMMARY OF OVERALL PURPOSE
Oversees all areas of Engineering. Provide leadership role for oversight and training/development programs to ensure an efficient, 100% safe and secure Village environment. Ensure compliance of all policies and procedures.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Staff Management
Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to provide direction, leadership and support to all engineering staff that mirror the mission and core values of the organization
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development
Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct performance appraisals and administer salary adjustments
Provide necessary and appropriate coaching through frequent feedback, 1-1's and performance reviews
Ensure adequate staffing/volunteer coverage of operating areas
Projects
Oversee preventative maintenance program for attractions, public areas and all vehicles, ensuring work pre-scoped and scheduled consistently
Prioritize projects through HotSoS maintenance software
Key liaison with all departments regarding engineering initiatives, projects or concerns. Identify and resolve any items requiring attention or support
Ensure cost saving and effective volunteer group projects for visiting groups, participate in group meetings and planning
Serve as a member of Hurricane Ride Out Crew as appropriate
Play an active role in construction projects by ensuring that there is little to no effect on families, ensuring project stays on schedule and work is getting done up to standards
Planning
Monitor KPIs, activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to ensure an efficiently managed engineering program
Establish annual operating budget and recommended staffing guidelines for Engineering Department
Develop and maintain a training program for specialty engineering positions
Ensure the development of policy and procedures for Engineering Department
Participate as an active member in hurricane preparedness
Reporting
Monitor KPIs, activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to ensure an efficiently managed engineering program
Adopt and utilize weekly reports and checklists to ensure staff are providing safe, effective, and controlled services
All other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY SCOPE
Number of Direct Reports: 9
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OUTSIDE NORMAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, crouch, balance, use hands/arms to lift/move objects
Ability to move/lift up to 75 lbs.
Work in outdoor weather conditions
Have a flexible schedule in order to work days, nights, weekends and holidays
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated effective leader with the ability to train, coach and motivate team members
Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage and execute tasks in a dynamic environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Establishes effective working relationships by adjusting approaches to meet the needs of a diverse team
Effectively identifies and analyzes problems, and uses creative solutions to solve problems with varying degrees of information
Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, tact, professionalism and integrity
PC skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
Ability to operate a motorized vehicle, including battery-operated golf cart
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
High School Diploma
At least 10 years of previous resort/hotel management experience with similar functional areas
At least 10 years hands on experience in performing plumbing, electrical, HVAC and additional maintenance functions
At least 5 years of experience managing teams
Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred
Bilingual, English and Spanish is helpful
