STUDENT TRAINEE

(Emergency Management)

Pay Rate: $10.00/hr.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (20 hrs./week)

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Work consists of routine duties. Provides office, telephone and/or related support work as required by the employing department/division. Operates office machinery as required (i.e.: personal computers, telephones, copiers, inserter/folder equipment, etc.). Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Ability to read and write in English. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions given in English. Ability to work effectively with fellow employees and assist the public cooperatively and courteously. Sufficient physical agility and ability to perform duties in all weather conditions if required by the employing department/division. Working knowledge of Windows-based personal computer equipment and Microsoft Office Suite products. Prior customer service experience is preferred. Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be a bona fide student currently enrolled in an accredited technical or vocational school or college, two-year community college, or an accredited major college or university system. No substitution is allowed as applicants must meet the bona fide student requirement standard.

SPECIAL PREFERENCES

Preference given to students enrolled in Emergency Management study programs.

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment within this classification should it be required by the assigned unit or office.

This position is part-time, Monday-Friday and is based in the Emergency Operations Center, 1890 Jim Keene Blvd., Winter Haven, FL. A flexible schedule may be implemented if the Student Trainee has classes during a portion of the week. The hourly pay rate is $10.00 per hour.

This position may be required to report for work when a Local State of Emergency is declared in Polk County.
