NATURE OF WORK:
Performs semi-skilled work in the operation of moderately complex landscape installation and maintenance equipment. Performs tasks of average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of front-end loader/backhoe, five to eight cubic-yard dump truck, thousand-gallon water truck, and a combination vehicle to transport front-end loader/backhoe. Performs skilled work involving establishment, layout, installation, and maintenance of landscape material per plan or blueprint or as directed by supervision. Performs skilled work in the preparation, cultivation, and care of landscape material such as ground-cover, shrubs, and trees in City parks, facilities, medians, and right-of-ways. Performs all installation and maintenance per proper horticultural methods. Responsible for the application of fertilizer around plants and trees during installation throughout the parks, facilities and right-of-ways. Responsible for pruning plant material according to Florida Grades and Standards or as directed for liability or safety reasons. Tasks at times are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be alert and careful. Under general supervision, employees are required to exercise some initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed by a Crew Chief or Field Supervisor while in progress and upon completion by observation and review of results obtained.
