Job Description:

This position is located in Orlando, FL. The Center for Quality Medication Management (CQM) in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida is seeking an intermediate level AWS Data Warehouse Engineer to join their IT team.  Employment with CQM provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs that support the Center’s mission.  The incumbent should have an intermediate understanding of IT systems, development lifecycle, quality assurance/testing, and integration methodologies. 
Duties include:

  • Architect, develop, test, release, and support AWS infrastructure solutions
    • Design, build, maintain, document, and automate technical processes and operations using AWS cloud services.
    • Assist with development and deployment of serverless components hosted on AWS.
    • Manage live production and dev environments, ensuring system availability and scalability
    • Monitor performance and troubleshoot errors/debug
    • Designs, Develops, and prototypes cloud-deployed services, APIs, and serverless infrastructure
    • Assist with the design of robust and appropriately normalized schemas for warehousing a wide variety of datasets and determine when SQL vs. NoSQL solutions are preferred
    • Leverage shell scripting and Linux system operation skills to assist in the maintenance of and migration from legacy systems
  • Analyze, design, deliver, and maintain infrastructure solutions according to business and technical requirements
    • Collaborate with other teams to resolve issues related to application configuration, deployment or debugging
    • Conduct effective investigation, diagnosis, and root cause analysis of incidents/problems. Develop, implement and document solutions in a timely manner and validate with system users that service has been restored.
    • Recommend cloud infrastructure technologies and tools that are most appropriate to support disease management call center
    • Leverage and recommend best practices that will sustain and allow scalability
    • Ensure that the technical solutions deliver the business value
    • Document functional requirements and ROI opportunities related to disease state management call center
    • Assist with automation of the deployment of applications and infrastructure as part of the application development process
    • Collaborate to implement best practice systems solutions and process changes in a fast-paced call center environment
    • Comprehensively test all infrastructure components of IT solutions to ensure business requirements are met
  • Innovate rapidly to evolve systems in support of changing business needs
    • Proactively tune systems ensuring acceptable performance levels using contemporary demand information.
    • Contribute to requirements gathering process focusing on infrastructure components
    • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to proactively design optimized infrastructure solutions
    • Implement and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions
    • Assists in the preparation of LOEs, project artifacts, and migration plans
  • Understand user requirements and how they translate into application features
  • Make decisions that will influence a scale-able back-end architecture
    • Collaborate with Development team members to ensure solid design principles and platform reliability, resilience, and performance/scalability
    • Design functional solutions that enable process change, continuous improvement and competitive advantage.
    • Adhere and comply with System Development Lifecycle and Release Management processes and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues and other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ experience as an Infrastructure Engineer using AWS
  • Experience working on web applications that require 24/7 uptime
  • Experience leading to a complete understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Experience in building robust systems (resiliency, fault tolerance, scalability) at scale
  • Experience with typical software development procedures such as bug tracking and Git required
  • Knowledge and experience with scripting languages. Python, Node.js, Shell Script
  • Relational database design skills
  • Systems engineering: 2 years
  • Experience required supporting and working in project development and production support environments
  • Experience with record linkage, consolidation and householding in relational databases
  • Experience leading to a complete understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Expert in Scripting Languages, NoSQL and SQL, object-oriented design, and programming skills
  • 2+ years’ experience as back-end engineer
  • API design and development preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of ETL/interoperability processes and workflows
  • In-depth knowledge of large datasets, SQL and drug databases
  • Experience designing and building web application environments on AWS, core AWS services, including EC2, Amazon Connect, Amazon RDS, AWS Lambda, RedShift, Glue, Sagemaker, and Amazon S3
  • Experience with DynamoDB, PySpark
  • Broad knowledge in analytics and dashboarding tools
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability, including expertise in soliciting and interpreting customer business needs and translating them into technical design and architectural patterns

This time-limited position is located at UF's Lake Nona Campus in Orlando, FL. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or remote work. This position requires a criminal background check prior to hire.
