The Office of Accessibility Services at Rollins College is seeking a knowledgeable and service-oriented Director to join and lead their team! The Accessibility Services Director reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs for Care, or designee, and provides assistance in the leadership and administration of the division of student affairs, and administration of the care alignment, serves as one of the institution's student advocates, and provides creative vision and leadership for accessibility services/programs.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Compliance and Accommodations
     
    • Leads the review, creation, implementation and enhancement of services, programs, training, policies and procedures to support students with disabilities, to support student success and retention, and ensure federal compliance.
    • Serves as the primary resource related to campus student accessibility issues and works collaboratively to identify, facilitate, and implement appropriate student support services.
    • Evaluates and interprets students' documentation to establish eligibility for departmental services; meets with active and prospective students to discuss reasonable and effective use of accommodations.
    • Facilitates the provision of reasonable accommodations for students with a wide range of disabilities to ensure equal access to programs, services, and activities.
    • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
    • Ensures accessibility to all college programs and services.
  • Planning and Oversight
     
    • Prepares long- and short- range plans and budgets, and monitors and reports performance related to goals, and manages office budget.
    • Plans, implements, and reviews assessment metrics to evaluate program delivery of services, student learning outcomes, student satisfaction and success.
    • Hires, trains, coordinates, and supervises Accessibility Services staff, including three part time staff and five student workers.
    • Serves on various campus committees; team with staff to address problems regarding accessibility.
  • Support Services
     
    • Supports faculty and staff in developing fair and effective instructional methods and adaptations to provide classroom, dining, and housing access for this student population.
    • Serve as the liaison between faculty, staff and students with special needs.
    • Provide general accessibility management, advising and support to students with disabilities. 
    • Educates and coaches students in self-advocacy to help implement reasonable accommodations; promote awareness of the department's services.
  • Collaborates closely with the Dean of Students, Associate Dean for Advising, and Director of the Holt School, Student and Family Care, Residence Life and Explorations, Wellness Center, Career and Life Planning, Inclusion and Campus Involvement, academic advising, and academic probation.
  • Performs other departmental duties as assigned by the Dean of Students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field (i.e. higher education administration, counseling, etc.).
  • Experience in investigating and responding to complaints of accommodations.
  • Experience working with accessibility work.
  • Knowledge of students with disabilities, college success strategies such as time management, reading and study skills and test-taking strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience with College policies and legal issues in higher education.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Extensive knowledge of other AA/EEO and Civil Rights laws and regulations.
  • Proven leadership in the area of ADA and Section 504 compliance.
  • Thorough understanding of the organizational management of student affairs including partnership building with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community.
  • Ability to provide consultation and coaching for managers, supervisors, staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to mediate and use problem-solving skills to conduct alternative dispute resolution. Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills, and the ability to deal with complex and sometimes sensitive issues.
  • Able to work independently in a highly productive and fast-paced environment.
  • Competence in using  Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, and other applicable software.
  • Ability to provide perspective and utilize a proactive style of leadership that encourages teamwork and interaction.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population, promote a campus climate of inclusion and participation by all students.
  • Well-developed skills in written, verbal and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to effectively balance the administrative responsibilities of the position and the advocacy needs of the students by embodying a leadership philosophy that includes Service Excellence as well as the Division of Student Affairs values of: Care, Holistic Well-being, Advocacy, Inclusion, Growth and Engagement.

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Student accessibility experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with college level students.
  • Experience with software system Accommodate.

Work Environment:

  • Working in-person, on campus, in an office/field environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and use of computer.
  • Overtime may be required as needed.
