UTILITIES: TRADES HELPER

FULL TIME TEMP TO PERM
Candidates will be staffed through Ad-Vance Talent Solutions, a business partner of Polk County, during the probationary period before transition to County employment.

PG-P05 ($11.21-$16.61)

Must have the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated below:

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work.  Assists plant maintenance trades workers (i.e. mechanics, lift station technicians, electricians, and instrumentation technician), as assigned, in general repair duties. Acts as a helper to utilities operations and maintenance personnel in performing general maintenance and repair duties, and new construction. Performs physical labor work related to maintenance of water wastewater pump facilities, systems, and plants as directed. Assists in repairing and installing utilities mechanical and electrical equipment. Trades Helper may from time to time be stationed for extended periods of time at specific Water and Wastewater locations with the intent to gain experience and knowledge towards satisfying DEP requirements for operating licenses.

Performs related work as required. 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance of facilities.  Ability to learn the general practices and procedures of one or more of the utilities maintenance trades.  Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of manual work in all weather conditions.  Ability to learn to work from sketches and blueprints. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public. Ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. 

Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination.  Ability to see colors.  Ability to see, ambulate independently, drive, climb, bend, stoop, sit, and stand. Ability and agility to perform various job duties in all weather conditions including lifting and/or interacting with job related appurtenances and equipment which might weigh in excess of forty-five (45) pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have some experience in one or more of the building/mechanical/electrical trades.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment.

A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of licensure.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Must have a home telephone at the time of employment as employee is subject to call. 

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
