SUMMARY OF OVERALL PURPOSE

The Accountant III performs a variety of accounting tasks and functions in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards. Under direction from management and using independent judgement, this position is responsible for the timely and accurate recording of revenues, expenses and other general accounting entries, as well as preparing financial reports.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Monthly Closings

Prepares reconciliations of accounts. Utilizes various applications/systems to prepare financial spreadsheets. Creates journal entries. Prepares monthly and ad hoc financial reporting. Day to Day Financial

Daily cash management. Revenue and expense accounting and recognition under GAAP. Supports departmental needs. Annual Processes

Assists with annual budget preparation. Prepares supporting schedules for the annual external audit and tax return preparation. Other Responsibilities

Corporate credit card maintenance and accounting. State registrations and other compliance. Sales and other taxes. All other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OUTSIDE NORMAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, crouch, balance, use hands and arms. Ability to lift 25 lbs. unaided. Ability to work for extended periods in an office environment. Flexible schedule to include rotating schedules, nights, weekends and/or extended hours of work.

Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience

Working knowledge of accounting and business practice. Effective computer skills to perform accounting tasks and use software (Excel, Outlook, Word, and others.) Ability to speak, read and write English to communicate with donors and vendors. Ability to operate a variety of office machines. Good organizational skills with attention to detail. Demonstrated experience to deliver exceptional customer service. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all types of individuals, including co-workers, volunteers, vendors, and leaders in a helpful manner. Ability to operate a motorized vehicle, including battery operated golf cart. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experience. Five to seven years of business experience. Nonprofit experience, preferred.
