JOB SUMMARY: Performs complex activities related to the continued design, development, implementation and acceptance tests of show and / or ride control systems and software systems modification projects for increased reliability and operational improvements. Will be required to support downtime recovery efforts when necessary. Project work will require troubleshooting, fault analysis, build, test, and start-up integration of Ride and Show systems. All work shall be in conformance to ASTM F24 Committee guidelines and compliant with applicable codes, regulations and standards including: AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA, among others. Development of some projects will require basic management of out sourcing services, third party consulting, contracts, and scheduling of work, in conjunction with Manager, Controls.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Modifies hardware and software of complex electrical and control systems to improve safety, reliability, throughput, cost of ownership, and operational readiness. Interacts with UO Ride/Show Maintenance Department for prioritizing project tasks and training incentives to improve ride reliability and operational readiness.

Produces scopes of work and manage progress from design through installation for assigned projects. Develops and oversees project schedules and budgetary demands, as needed. Monitors and interfaces with vendors/design-builders to resolve problems and design issues on assigned projects.

Acts as mentor for associate level sustaining controls engineers.

Coordinates assigned engineering activities between vendors, ride supervisors, ride managers and technicians. Provide project status of assigned task list items to the appropriate ride manager and engineering manager on a regular basis. Updates project status via Maximo on a regular basis.

Prepares and reviews equipment specifications and performs technical evaluation of vendor products/services. Oversee mock-up, prototype, installations, test and adjustments of show and ride systems to ensure compliance with contractual specifications.

Develops and conducts Acceptance Test Procedures on control systems.

Maintains configuration management of hardware and software documentation in accordance with Engineering's guidelines for proper archiving and security.

Provides design and maintenance support for all attractions at Universal Orlando as required.

Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: Responsible for performing complex activities related to the continued design, development, implementation and acceptance tests for all Ride & Show control and software systems modification projects for increased reliability and operational improvements.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field required; Master's degree from a four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 10+ years demonstrated experience in electrical engineering, control system design and installation utilizing PLC's, ladder logic, variable frequency drivesand servo control systems, field experience with technical theme park, or processcontrol fault analysis/isolation experience required. 7-10 years in the design and/or sustaining engineering of process controls, motion controls, AC/DC Drive Systems, or related in an automated manufacturing/process or analogous Theme Park technical environment required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Strong analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test and implementation of electrical and control systems.
  • A strong background in servo controls as applied to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromotive motion control systems is required.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC systems is required.
  • Knowledge of a high-level programming language (“C” or Visual Basic).
  • Experience in the generation of control system specifications, acceptance test procedures and failure and effects analysis.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations commensurate with Baccalaureate training in electrical, electronic and software engineering.
  • Proven ability to provide control system project management and coordination of multiple resources to include technical compliance, scheduling, staffing, and budgeting.
  • Experience in the design of safety critical systems.
  • Knowledgeable in UL 508A, NEC, ASTM and F24 standards.
  • Proven application experience utilizing the following products and networks.
  • PLC-5, SLC-500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix.
  • PanelBuilder 1400E, PanelBuilder32, RSView 32, RSLinx, RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000 and RSNetWorx.
  • Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software.
  • AC and DC motors and motor control systems.
  • Experience in Ride and Show control systems in the theme park industry.
  • Proven application experience utilizing the following products and networks.
  • Anitech and Gilderfluke show system controllers.
  • 1305 and 1336 variable frequency drives.
  • Data Highway Plus, Remote I/O, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet, DMX and SMPTE.
