Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for analyzing the financial costs of risk and uncertainty related to our business market and industry. The Actuary will use mathematics, statistics, and financial theory to assess the risk of potential events related to claims and loss exposure. They will assist in developing policies and processes that minimize the cost of that specific risk.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works with statistics and available data to ensure the company meets budgetary requirements and make wise policy decisions
  • Studies statistical data for trending and risk analyses
  • Assist with calculating and establishing appropriate claim reserves
  • Creates actuarial procedures to insure against property loss and other liabilities that may occur from fires, natural disasters, or other accidents.
  • Makes recommendations to leadership team regarding pricing changes based on losses, competitor pricing and market data research
  • Establishes core knowledge of actuarial industry norms and stays abreast of industry developments
  • Keeps up to date on key legislative bills and regulations
  • Establishes internal business relationships and facilitates the implementation of product changes through other parts of the organization
  • Calculates how insurance policies for different types of coverage are likely to pay out
  • Coordinates filings process with consulting actuaries
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation
  • Assist in other areas of department or other departments as required
  • Present a professional and helpful appearance

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited university, with coursework in Actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or Associate of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) preferred
  • 5+ years working in a comparable role; insurance experience preferred
  • Exceptional oral/written communication skills (both technical and business), problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis, system development, problem solving and project management skills
  • Must possess strong analytical skills to determine specifics of insurance policies and avoid any errors that would lead to negative consequences
