The Opportunity

UCF is seeking to hire three (3) Payroll Specialist II positions. Positions # P-13816, P-16807, & P-25741. This Payroll Specialist II is responsible for ensuring compliance with university rules, policies, and procedures relating to the processing of payroll. This position is also responsible for all payroll processing activities, including regular and overtime pay processing, supplemental pay, calculation/verification of retroactive payments and overpayments, dual compensation, employee and employer contributions/deductions, leave accruals and payouts, and payroll taxes.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to employee and department inquiries related to paycheck calculations, payroll-related policies and procedures and time entry. Responsible for replying to e-mails/phone calls/Workday Help cases in a timely manner (24-48 hours). The shared Payroll email account responsibility is on a rotational basis with the other Payroll Specialists. Workday Help cases are a shared daily responsibility among all Payroll Specialists.

  • Conducts payroll audits to assist in the calculation and processing of retroactive payments and overpayment recoveries due to late payroll-impacting job actions, including but not limited to hires, terminations, and pay rate changes.

  • Runs pay calculation processes and reviews validation/error reports during the payroll cycle. Researches and resolves issues as needed.

  • Processes and validates time-off payouts related to terminations, job class changes and retirement on a rotational basis.

  • Maintains payroll spreadsheets to track dual compensation fiscal maximums by employee. Helps maintain other logs to track payroll-related metrics.

  • Assists with the printing, logging and distribution of paychecks to employees.

  • Keys entries and runs monthly off-cycle payrolls for benefit voucher refunds and payments on a rotational basis.

  • Sends communications, as needed, to employees related to cell phone allowances, 12-month payment option, tuition waivers, check pick-ups and overpayment notifications.

  • Completes wage verifications (ex: mortgage verification, workers' compensation).

  • Processes garnishments and subpoenas.

  • Presents at New Employee Orientation and other events as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Payroll Professional Certification

Experience and/or education in accounting or payroll and with a strong understanding of payroll processes in a higher education setting.

Knowledge of applicable payroll-related state and federal laws as well as tax laws

Excellent collaboration with ability to effectively communicate (written and verbally) with cross-functional business partners, internal/external stakeholders, and various levels of management.

Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills

Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel

Workday experience is a plus.
