The Academic Writer/Editor will provide intensive writing, copyediting, proofreading, and content alignment of curriculum and educational materials. Candidate will work as part of a team in the production of curriculum proposals and aligning learning structures. Candidate will be versed in educational pedagogy and hold a deep understanding of curriculum learning outcomes, content leveling, and education theory. The selected candidate will be involved in all aspects of the editorial and writing workflow and project management to ensure the following: pedagogical effectiveness, consistency, accuracy, accreditation parameters, and appropriate realization of the original intent of the proposal as well as intended stakeholder goals. Candidates will be required to submit a résumé and two writing samples to be considered for this position. All positions are full time, on-campus in Winter Park, FL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain product/proposal content according to set parameters from different accrediting bodies
  • Edit/proofread curriculum proposal content to a set style and tone
  • Develop curriculum projects to meet a complex set of accrediting parameters and Full Sail initiatives
  • Leverage high-level understanding of internal terminology, educational philosophy, and marketing representation of Full Sail in project work
  • Develop working relationships with faculty teams to dynamically coordinate curriculum content and writing/revision of learning outcomes
  • Receive, follow through on, and process requests to update sensitive content according to a schedule and approval chain
  • Accommodate approval processes for multiple editing projects ranging in priority
  • Maintain narrative consistency and content decisions within and across projects
  • Responsible for writing educational narrative for products based on deep analysis of multiple stakeholder and project needs within education and accreditation support
  • Work independently to create original content that is suitable to meet timely initiatives
  • Make decisions based on academic analysis of curriculum content to appropriately align the development of new products
  • Research, write, and edit original content to address accreditation projects and follow through with stakeholder review
  • Coordinate with designers and software teams for appropriate application of curriculum content
  • Maintain appropriate file histories and folder archives for future applications
  • Adapt to changing educational needs and adjust style to address various audiences
  • Query and consult stakeholders when detecting issues of concern in project content
  • Participate in both inter- and intradepartmental meetings related to schedules, workflow, and projects

Competencies:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and editing for grammar and punctuation, and production editorial skills
  • Strong background in education theory
  • Ability to decipher leveling and intent of curriculum content in order to build learning outcomes from given subject matter
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project-management abilities
  • Ability to multitask while working independently and collaboratively with other staff
  • Ability to interact professionally and constructively with students and staff at all levels in an immersive, fast-paced environment

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in English, Writing, or Education and two years editing or grant writing experience preferred, Chicago Manual of Style.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • None required

Skills:

  • Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Keynote/PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong knowledge of production processes
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment.
