Assistant Nurse Manager - Transfer Center - ORMC

 

Position Summary

Orlando Health is a 3,238-bed system that includes 23 hospitals and emergency departments.

The Orlando Health Emergent Transfer Center handles the patient movement and logistics to hospitals and free-standing emergency rooms across the central Florida area. Our mission is to assist in the clinical placement and movement of critical patients both into and out of our facilities providing timely access to care for our patients when minutes matter the most. The transfer center is staffed 24/7 with communication specialist who collaborate between physicians, hospitals, and other immediate health care settings to coordinate the timely movement of high acuity patients such as STEMI, stroke, trauma, neonatal care, and so forth. Our team is committed to the care and improvement of human life. At the Orlando Health Transfer Center, we also assist in arranging transportation services when needed through connection with ground and air services. Our goal is to provide comprehensive solutions that allow health care providers the ability to stay at the bedside with the patient while we assist in locating placement, transport, and other needed logistics for getting this patient the access to care that they need.

Position Information:

Full Time - 40 Hours

Day Shift - with flexibility to meet with night shift team members as necessary.


Responsibilities

* Responsible for 24/7 operations of the Transfer Center.

* Provides reports to designated leadership regarding patient coordination.

* Responsible for implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures and protocols related to the mission and role of the Emergent Transfer Center.

* Maintains the organization's standards of nursing care in accordance with policies and procedures.

* Works collaboratively with other hospital departments and external customers to develop and implement clinically sound and efficient transfers of care.

* Develops and maintains staff training and education, including Customer Service and EMTALA training.

* Communicates with physicians and other stakeholders regarding patient placement issues.

* Participates in various marketing, outreach and community focused activities.

* Assists in data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and analyzing of triage problems for the purpose of developing and implementing protocols, policies and procedures.

* Assist with Outreach education and communication as needed.

* Participates in the recruitment and selection of new team members for the department through interviews, peer selection, and evaluation of candidates.

* Coordinates with the Department Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources as indicated on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement.

* Participates and/or leads staff meetings or huddles; demonstrates ownership of unit and outcomes.

* Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.

* Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

* Monitors compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends and leads the team on process/quality improvement initiatives.

* Other duties as assigned.

* Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; diplomatic and friendly telephone etiquette; use of professional vocabulary;

* Positive, enthusiastic, helpful personality that is customer service oriented and consistent with Studer principals;

* Keen critical thinking skills; ability to analyze information of a complex nature and provide sound judgment and direction to caller;

* Ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks, problem-solve and make decisions quickly;

* Physical requirements include the ability to sit for extended periods of time and work in a confined space


Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) required.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute setting
  • Understanding of the different levels of care throughout the hospital.
  • Previous telephone triage or CAD experience preferred
