The Opportunity:
Join the University of Central Florida (UCF) Student Health Team as a Pharmacy Technician and become part of our dedicated team that is committed to providing excellent healthcare to the community that we serve. The Pharmacy Technician position works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and assists the pharmacists in providing medication and other healthcare products to patients and customers of the Student Health Services Pharmacy.
Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, assist in the preparation of filling prescriptions. Proficient interpretation of physician orders and prescription information.
Ability to accurately enter prescription data into the computer for processing. Billing 3rd party insurance + PBM's, obtaining prior authorizations, formulary + reimbursement monitoring.
Responsible for inventory management, ordering, stocking, and inputting new shipments of medication into the computer and returning overstock items to wholesalers and reverse distributors.
Ability to communicate and interact with Pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and support staff (Team Players).
Ability to stock and market OTC medications (DAILY/WEEKLY).
Responsible for ordering and keeping adequate stock of prescription vials and supplies for more efficient dispensing.
Receive and document drug samples on a computer. Assist consultant Pharmacist in ordering and preparing for dispensation of drug orders to the Health Center. Deliver drug orders when needed (DAILY/WEEKLY). Assist in hiring and scheduling OPS Pharmacy Technicians.
Check expiration dates monthly, remove medication that will soon be outdated and reorder those that are needed and return expired medications to reverse distributor.
Assist in developing and writing policies and procedures, and developing appropriate forms (medication errors, intervention reports, etc.) as pertains to Pharmacy Technicians. Serve as an active mentor of various committees as delegated.
Contact the appropriate physician when a patient needs refill authorization (RAF's). Monitor nightly closing duties. Assist in the record-keeping process for Modified IIB Institutional Pharmacy (WEEKLY).
Keep shelves fronted, cleaned, and adequately stocked, and place new medication behind older medications.
Maintain and complete record keeping and filling duties.
Maintain efficient prescription flow. Must be able to assist in filling 300 or more prescriptions a day.
Monitor wait times on prescriptions.
Greet patients and other professionals on the phone and in person. Ensure telephone messages are legible, detailed, completed, and handled, in a timely efficient manner.
Ensure appropriate patient care by notifying the pharmacist of all emergencies or special attention messages.
Ensure appropriate patient care by turning all calls relating to medical questions over to the Pharmacist.
Verify the eligibility status of patients.
Understand the inner workings of the health center.
Conduct a biannual physical inventory.
Assist the Pharmacist by answering telephone calls.
Assist in orientation and training of new Pharmacists, both full-time and OPS and Pharmacy Technicians.
Other assignments/duties when needed. Timely completion of all required university, AHSC, and SHS training.
Minimum Qualifications:
Registered with the State of Florida, Board of Pharmacy, and 2+ years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with 2-3 years of experience working in a busy retail pharmacy environment,
Candidates with a flexible schedule and availability to work Saturdays and evening shifts as needed.
