The Opportunity:
UCF is seeking to fill multiple CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machine Technician II roles. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department. This position is responsible for operating machine tools to manufacture and engineer/reverse engineer parts. Supports research, instructional, and Senior Design activities of faculty, staff, and students through design/fabrication services. Proficient with Solid Works in modeling and making blueprints. Maintains quality and safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. CNC Machine Technician II reports to the Machine Shop Manager and will fill in when the Manager is off-campus.
Responsibilities:
Ability to operate, understand, and maintain all current and planned machining equipment, both metrology and prototyping equipment and tools in the Shop, inclusive of lathes, mills, saws, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), manual devices, and other equipment in the shop.
Utilize Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) tools/softwares.
Train staff, faculty, students, and any other employees of the colleges to use machines, meteorology, and prototyping equipment.
Provide guidance to customers who request support for design and materials selection. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Interaction on an individual/team basis to deliver high-quality machine parts, and designs based on sketches, verbal, detailed drawings, 3-D models, or other concepts.
Maintain continuity among team members by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs to maximize productivity and minimize machine downtime.
Maintain a working environment that fosters teamwork and respect among all Machine Shop staff, OR, MAE, and all other colleges and departments that make up The University of Central Florida.
Capable of stepping into the Training role and assisting students in the beginning and advanced concepts of manufacturing. This means working in both the Main Shop and Training as the workload requires.
Foster a safe working environment consistent with UCF Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies. Responsible for all individuals in the shop in accordance with all safety practices of manufacturing. Training and teaching of staff, professors, student, and any other individual in the shop of all safety protocols.
Work with supervisory staff to maintain inventory of required shop materials, tooling, and equipment.
Ability to maintain equipment and make any minor adjustments/fixes to machinery as needed. Maintain maintenance log(s) as required. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines concerning troubleshooting and repair of machinery. Possess contact information for equipment service techs should they be required.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications. Possess the ability to follow all lock-out-tag processes.
Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership in all you do. Explore opportunities to add new and upcoming technologies to better serve our customers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved machinist apprenticeship program and 2+ years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years experience in 3 Axis CNC Machining – Lathes and Mills, Haas machines a plus.
3 years experience in 5 Axis CNC Machining – Mills, Okuma machines a plus.
Experience with Makino Wire EDM, CNC Fast Hole EDM.
Hands-on application of manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, saws, and various other shop equipment.
5 years of Solidworks CAD Software experience, latest Update.
Experience with MasterCam CAM Software, version 2023.
Experience with all Microsoft Software products.
Health Assessment Required:
The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
