JOB SUMMARY

Starting salary: $50,481.60/yr – $77,563.20/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Functions as a trained subject matter expert in the area of fitness and wellness by developing programming and providing instruction, education, coaching and encouraging individuals to adopt personal healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors by performing the following duties. #oj

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S) in Health Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Wellness, or a closely related field AND one (1) year related experience in areas such as fitness instruction, wellness, or health education. A Master's Degree in Health Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Wellness, or a closely related field may substitute for relevant experience.
  • If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an Associate Degree
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a Bachelor's Degree
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a Master's Degree
  • Must have a nationally recognized group fitness, personal training, health/fitness instructor, or nutritional counseling certification or be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of accepting the position.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver license and attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver's physical exam.
  • Must be certified in CPR/First Aid or be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of accepting the position.

  • Ability to assist with wellness programming, schedules, and conducts wellness and fitness classes such as lunch and learn seminars, cardio and strength training sessions, yoga, stretching classes, and choose-to-move breaks.
  • Ability to assist with the development and presentation of wellness related information before groups in informational meetings and/or employee training classes on a variety of wellness topics including activity, fitness, healthy eating, stress management, resiliency, financial fitness and healthy relationships.
  • Ability to counsel employees on health and wellness matters; performs comprehensive fitness and wellness assessments and provides suggestions for lifestyle improvements. Will create personal fitness plans with the employee's goals and abilities in mind.
  • Ability to assist and support preparing employees for fitness requirements. Provides physical activity and wellness opportunities to employees at various work locations, leading multiple training sessions throughout the week.
  • Ability to assist the Wellness Coordinator with the implementation and delivery of wellness programs and special events to include the selection of subject matter and vendors as needed.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of wellness articles, announcements, bulletins, and promotional materials through appropriate media. May be required to conduct research and develop reports and publications for distribution. Gathers statistical information for reports.
  • Ability to assist benefits staff as needed for large benefit initiatives to include annual benefits open enrollment.
  • Ability to file and maintain confidential and sensitive information. Logs data in computer.
  • Ability to provide guidance and assistance to agency employees in filling out wellness consultation paperwork when necessary.
  • Ability to complete special projects when necessary. Must use problem solving skills and take independent action.
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Must have the ability to prepare routine correspondence, memorandums, reports, and other documents as needed. When responding to employee or citizen requests, may have to exercise some independent judgment in accordance with public information laws regarding disclosure.
  • Must have the ability to answers questions verbally or in writing regarding wellness issues.
  • Must have the ability to enter information into databases and/or spreadsheets. Processes paperwork and ensures paperwork contains necessary signatures and other supporting documentation.
  • Must have the ability to track employee progress and follows-up when necessary.
  • Must have the ability to develop employee-based programs for health and fitness, stress management, nutritional coaching, and other programs promoting and inspiring life balance.
  • Must possess advanced communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Must have the ability to develop and provide promotional materials, workshops, and presentations on fitness, nutrition, and other wellness related topics and respond to questions from employees, vendors, and the general public.
  • Must have the ability to teach and direct fitness and/or wellness classes.
  • Must have the ability to build strong collaborative working relationships at all levels within the organization, effectively lead in a positive manner, and work under pressure.
  • Must have proficient organizational skills.
  • Must possess basic mathematical skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in various forms.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing, presentation, calendar/scheduling, spreadsheet, and data base applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Must possess information systems entry and retrieval skills.
  • Must have the ability to learn and utilize specialized applications and informational systems (e.g., human resources systems software) and use the internet effectively to research information. Intermediate Word and PowerPoint skills preferred.
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl (e.g., teaches fitness/wellness classes; assists with maintaining equipment in the gym). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision (e.g., ability to read computer and written documents and to view presentations on screens in conference/training room environments). The employee must possess sufficient cardiovascular strength and stamina to effectively lead fitness and/or wellness classes on a regular basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting or fitness center environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be required to occasionally work evenings and/or weekends.
