MRI Technician

POSITION: MRI Technician

RESPONSIBLE TO: Clinical Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY: Perform diagnostic testing and imaging by taking images of patients’ bodies using computerized MRI scanners.  Work closely with the interpreting radiologists to obtain the best images possible for each specific patient.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma required
  • Graduate of 2-year Radiologic Technology program required
  • Active and clear certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Active and clear professional license with the state of Florida

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years minimum previous work experience as an MRI technician
  • Experience with GE MRI scanners preferred
  • Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to learn and navigate within the practice’s electronic health record software
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service a must

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Clinical Responsibilities

  • Complies with all safety policies and regulations.
  • Reviews the Patient Screening form and takes appropriate action to avoid harm to patients and/or damage to MRI equipment.
  • Performs MRI imaging procedures on appropriate anatomical regions including the brain, body, spine and extremities in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols established by the practice and interpreting radiologists.
  • Closely follows the ordering physician’s instructions and orders, preparing and operating MRI equipment, positioning patients correctly and effectively recording the requested diagnostic images.
  • Selects and modifies technical factors to enhance images using approved and sound imaging techniques.
  • Maintains patient care, comfort and safety during escort to and from the MRI suite as well as during the MRI exam.
  • Reviews each MRI exam for technical accuracy, forwarding completed MRI exam to interpreting radiologist and communicating pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the MRI exam.
  • Completes necessary administrative tasks associated with the MRI exam including answering phone calls and messages as they relate to the MRI department.
  • Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems, calling for service when appropriate and notifying all pertinent team members and supervisors.
  • Maintains a clean environment in the MRI suite, the technician’s workstation and the changing room.

    General Administration

  • Maintains technical competency through continued education and obtains the necessary continuing education to keep personal professional licenses and certifications current.
  • Cooperates with facility healthcare personnel and complies with facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
  • Must be flexible, reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
  • Occasional travel to and from OOC branch offices may be required.
  • Performs additional duties as required and asked by the Clinical Supervisor or Operations Support Manager

    Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Typical Physical Demands

    Position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds occasionally with frequent lifting between 5-10 pounds. It also requires the ability to assist with patient maneuvering and positioning, as well as assisting patients up and down from the MRI table.  Involves sitting, stooping, crouching and kneeling as needed requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, calculator, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary. Employees will be viewing computer screens and typing for long periods of time, and working in an environment which may be stressful.
