POSITION: Medical Assistant – XR/BMO

RESPONSIBLE TO: Branch Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Prepares patients to see the physicians, facilitate lab tests, diagnostic imaging reports and other paperwork needed. Assist physician with clinical duties as directed. Provide excellent quality images for the provider while maintaining efficient throughput and patient flow.

WORK HOURS:

  • Monday through Thursday 7:45am – 4:45pm Orlando Office
  • Saturday 8:30 – 1:30pm Orlando Office

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma required
  • Basic Machine Operator certification
  • CMA certificate desirable

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year of experience in clinical assisting; orthopaedic experience preferred
  • At least one year of experience performing x-rays
  • Proficient using email and word processing software
  • Knowledge of practice management and electronic health record software a
  • Knowledge of digital imaging software; PACS experience preferred
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and cheerful attitude

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Clinical Support

  • Greets patients and escorts them from waiting room to exam rooms; prepares patients for exam or treatment.
  • Reviews medical history with patients and updates information in EMR accordingly
  • Takes patients vitals to include Height, Weight, B/P, Respiration and Temperature; logs vitals on flow sheet and into EMR accordingly
  • Orders X-rays for physicians according to their specified protocols. Ensure patients are wearing proper attire
  • Enters patient’s information into digital imaging software
  • Properly positions patient for specific x-ray views
  • Performs the x-rays and evaluates the quality of the images taken before submitting to PACS
  • Imports cds of diagnostic images from outside imaging centers into PACS
  • Assists physicians with suture and staple removal, minor procedures, and fracture reductions in office
  • Applies, adjusts and removes casts, splint, braces, and other DME products according to the physicians order
  • Draws up injectable medications
  • Replenishes supplies and cleans exam/x-ray room
  • Logs and dispenses medications to patients
  • Calls in medications to pharmacy and documents in EMR according to established protocols
  • Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
  • Ensures the charge slip for each office visit is accurate and complete
  • Ensures all forms are accurate, complete and signed prior to giving to patients

Other

  • Maintains patient confidentiality; com[lies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of computer software as it relates to job functions
  • Attends CPR and OSHA training programs as required
  • Maintains certifications and registrations per state guidelines
  • Attends all regular meetings
  • Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by Manager or Physician

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Typical Physical Demands

Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking for over an 8 hour day. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours. Employee will be exposed to biohazard materials on a regular basis.

Typical Working Conditions

Employee will have some exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances (ie: cleaning products), medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
