Description: .50 FTE Preschool Teacher-Shaw Elementary- afternoon session
Job Summary: To provide a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures utilizing district approved curriculum. To implement appropriate individualized education plan as defined by the IEP team for qualified students, advocate for all preschool students, provide appropriate services to eligible students based on current research and technology. Trauma sensitive lens in your classroom.
DUTY
NO. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: FRE-
QUENCY BAND/
GRADE 1 Develops and maintains a classroom environment that places students' needs in a primary position. 2 Responds to the social-emotional needs of students by interacting at a level that is personal and supportive. 3 Organizes a program of instruction utilizing district approved curriculum to meet individual students' need, abilities and interest as determined by tests, records and observations. 4 Incorporates current ideas, trends, methods, programs and materials related to preschool education. 5 Schedules activities to maintain a positive learning atmosphere and to provide access to the least restrictive environment 6 Adheres to all Federal Program policies including the parent involvement policy. 7 Assists administrators in identifying and implementing high quality early childhood learning experience that conforms to State standards. 8 Researches, compiles and introduces relevant educational materials to promote positive parenting. 9 Collaborates with parents to develop a plan for summer learning between preschool and kindergarten that allows the child to continue in an instructional program. 10 Maintains accurate and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. 11 Other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or Federal Programs.
Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of child development and early education theory and practices; safe and appropriate activities for children; an understanding of relevant legislation, polices and procedures related to preschool;
Skills (position requirements at entry): The teacher must have the ability to effectively teach at the preschool level, including but not limited to age appropriate lesson plans, creative outdoor and indoor play, and assessments. The teacher must have a strong understanding of early childhood developmental stages. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills and strong documented collaboration skills are required. . The teacher must be an independent worker.
Qualifications: Current Type A Alaska Certificate. Early Childhood endorsement preferred. Ability to meet the Alaska Reads Act requirements.
Physical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force routinely, and or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to work on floor with students.
