The Accessories Shop Lead reports directly to the Accessories Shop Supervisor and serves as the department's senior technical resource. This position is responsible for leading daily shop activities, coordinating work assignments, and providing technical guidance to technicians while actively performing the inspection, repair, overhaul, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of hydraulic, pneumatic, electromechanical, and other aircraft accessory components. The Accessories Shop Lead supports the Supervisor in meeting production schedules, quality objectives, customer commitments, and departmental goals.
This is a highly hands-on position with a primary responsibility of actively contributing to daily production output. The Accessories Shop Lead is expected to spend the majority of their time working on production units while simultaneously providing technical support, training, and guidance to other technicians. The Lead will lead by example, assisting with complex repairs, troubleshooting efforts, workflow coordination, and ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved technical data, company procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.

Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead daily workflow activities within the Accessories Department and assist the Supervisor in coordinating departmental priorities.
- Perform the disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, modification, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of aircraft accessory components as a regular part of daily production activities.
- Maintain an assigned workload and productivity level comparable to senior technicians while supporting departmental objectives.
- Lead by example through quality workmanship, adherence to procedures, productivity, and professionalism.
- Assist technicians with complex repairs, troubleshooting, and interpretation of technical data.
- Coordinate daily work priorities with the Accessories Shop Supervisor to ensure production goals and customer commitments are achieved.
- Monitor work in progress and assist in removing technical or production-related obstacles that could impact delivery schedules.
- Train and mentor technicians in proper maintenance practices, workmanship standards, troubleshooting techniques, and efficient work methods.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for technicians regarding repair procedures, tooling, testing, and technical data interpretation.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with OEM manuals, approved technical data, company procedures, and FAA regulations.
- Review units after inspection and assist with repair evaluations and quoting requirements.
- Verify that all required work records, inspection documentation, and maintenance records are properly completed and maintained.
- Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and turnaround time.
- Support the development of new repair capabilities, tooling requirements, and departmental procedures.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, preservation, and identification of all components and piece parts.
- Monitor the condition and proper use of shop equipment, tooling, and test equipment.
- Communicate work status, technical concerns, quality issues, and production challenges to the Accessories Shop Supervisor.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
- Promote and maintain a culture of Safety, Quality, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement.
- Support overtime and weekend work requirements as necessary to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
- Notify the Accessories Shop Supervisor of any condition that could affect product quality, regulatory compliance, safety, or airworthiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of aircraft hydraulic, pneumatic, electromechanical, and mechanical accessory components.
- Thorough understanding of FAA Part 145 repair station regulations and maintenance practices.
- Ability to interpret OEM Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), service bulletins, engineering data, and technical drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments, test equipment, and specialized tooling.
- Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead, train, and mentor technicians while maintaining a productive workload.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Quantum Control, and other company systems.
Experience & Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in aircraft component maintenance, hydraulic repair, landing gear accessories, or a related aerospace maintenance environment.
- Previous lead technician, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment:
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. and occasionally heavier items.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, climb ladders, and perform physical work in a shop environment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators when necessary.
Travel:
- May require occasional travel and off-site support in support of maintenance recovery activities, customer requirements, or deployed operations as required.
