Job Summary

Maintain continued competence in assigned and related areas. Maintain a good working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Observe college rules/regulations and state guidelines appropriate to faculty responsibilities. Lead instruction in the lab or lecture environment as scheduled or when needed to meet the educational needs of the student and requirements of the accrediting bodies.

Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Instruction in the classroom or skills laboratory for the Respiratory Care courses.
    • Demonstration of safe patient management, professional behavior, and sound judgment.
    • Demonstration of current knowledge and technical expertise in the field of respiratory care.
    • Demonstration of verbal and written communication skills and teamwork.
    • Maintaining equipment and supplies on assigned campus(es). This includes ensuring the lab is left neat and clean, with all equipment and supplies properly put away at the end of every class.
    • Plan and carry out instructional duties that maximize learning by students.
    • Supervise students in accordance with program procedures, academic, and course-related concerns.
    • Teach assigned courses in accordance with course descriptions and for the full period as scheduled.
    • Assist with recruitment when requested.
    • Be familiar with the course syllabus, which follows a prescribed format, including evaluation procedures, withdrawal procedures, class attendance, and other polices consistent with college procedures.
    • Attend all scheduled or called meetings by the President or Vice President of Workforce, AVP of Health Professions, and Program Director, unless excused by the Program Director.
    • Evaluate student progress and achievement with clear methods presented on the course syllabus, and utilize evaluation results for planning, instruction, counseling, and program modification in consultation with the supervisor.
    • Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
    • Submit grade reports and other required data on or before deadline dates.
    • Resolve discipline problems within the sphere of responsibility.
    • Assist and counsel students as needed.
    • Utilize material and equipment necessary to accomplish designated tasks or assignments.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional developments.
    • Comply with College, Program, and administrative rules/regulations and Board Policies.
    • Participate in an annual evaluation process as specified by the Vice President of Workforce.
    • Maintain continuity of communication with students, community, faculty, staff, and supervisors through timely replies to meetings, phone, mail, and email requests.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Attend all scheduled labs/clinicals for the full period as delineated on the schedule.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all students.
  • Submit grade reports on or before deadlines according to college procedures.
  • Participate in performance appraisal and instructional observation processes as specified by the VP of Workforce.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional methods.
  • Use instructional support materials and equipment as appropriate to enhance the learning environment.

  • Ability to work various hours, including nights, early mornings, and weekends
  • Ability to travel amongst various campuses, clinical sites and attend College meetings/events, on or off campus, as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

  • Required:
    • Associate degree in science from an accredited institution.
    • Two (2) years of current technical expertise, knowledge, and experience as well as clinical skills in the field of respiratory care.
    • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s degree in science from an accredited institution.
