General Statement of Job
Under general direction of the Fire Chief, performs technical supervisory and administrative work overseeing the activities of a division within the Fire-Rescue Department, including fire suppression, emergency response, fire prevention and investigation, and training. Position responds to fire-rescue related emergencies and takes command when appropriate. Performs related work as requested.

Essential Functions
Responds to large or significant fire-rescue related incidents and takes command when appropriate, or assists the command staff as needed.

Assists in the preparation of the budget and expenditures.

Monitors EMS expenditures and requisitions. May perform duties of City's Fire Code Official/fire Marshal as required by the Fire Chief.

Assists with the planning, organizing, directing, supervising, training and coordinating of Fire-Rescue Department Emergency Medical Services.

Prepares periodic reports, such as monthly expenditure reports; attends staff meetings and chairs Quality Assurance Meetings.

Oversees the research and development of recommendations regarding emergency medical services methods, supplies, and equipment.

Represents Fire-Rescue Department at meetings.

Attends various community and municipal meetings as the Fire-Rescue Department representative; serves on boards and committees as requested.

Promotes public relations and educational seminars for the public.

Assists with the oversight of routine station maintenance and duties.

Assists with the oversight of station tours; provides public information, where authorized.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold the rank of Battalion Chief or higher; AND
  • Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or closely related field; AND
  • Seven (7) year's of experience as a Fire Officer in a full-time paid organized fire department; AND
  • State Fire Standards Certificate of Compliance; AND
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License; AND
  • State of Florida Paramedic Certification; AND
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS Certification; AND
  • Valid EVOC Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Supervises or performs duties of Firefighter, EMT, or Paramedic as required. Performs routine office functions such as filing, faxing, answering phones and copying.
