Responsibilities
Provides operational and technical support for campus access control systems within the Campus Access and Security Services (C.A.S.S.) unit. Performs system administration, credential lifecycle management, and user support to ensure access control systems are accurately configured, reliable, and aligned with campus safety and security requirements.
Supports the University's access control systems, including management of system objects such as cardholder records, access groups, schedules, door assignments, and permissions. Processes adds, changes, and deletions for system users and credentials, ensuring accurate credential lifecycle management and alignment with established security policies and role-based access standards. Manages and processes incoming service requests related to access and alarm functionality through the C.A.S.S. ticketing system and designated communication channels, including access assignments, removals, schedule adjustments, door and event actions, and activity report reviews.
Collaborates with ITS Technicians to support requests requiring system data analysis or reporting by defining security requirements, validating outputs, and identifying discrepancies or anomalies. Coordinates service and repair activities by entering and tracking tickets for access control and locking devices, including AD400 locks, and works with ITS and vendors to support timely resolution of system issues.
Coordinates access provisioning activities with campus departments and departmental security representatives to ensure timely and accurate assignment or removal of access. Provides user support and guidance on access control procedures and resolves access-related service requests, including denied access events, permission conflicts, and schedule issues.
Troubleshoots access control system issues by analyzing system activity, reviewing reports, and coordinating with ITS Technicians and vendors as needed. Initiates and tracks service requests, supports diagnostic testing, and assists with resolution efforts to restore proper system functionality and user access.
Serves as the primary operational liaison with the SMS stand-alone lock system vendor to support system updates, troubleshooting, and issue resolution, including management of PDAs used for lock configuration. Provides hands-on support, training, and report generation for departmental users and Public Safety needs. Supports coordination for new physical security installations and access control upgrades by assisting with site walkthroughs, documenting requirements, coordinating with vendors and internal teams, and supporting installation scheduling, commissioning, and validation to ensure alignment with security and operational standards.
Maintains and updates physical security contact and authorization records, ensuring accurate documentation of designated departmental representatives and appropriate leadership approvals for system access. Maintains system documentation, reports, and access control records, including user access logs, configuration data, and credential information. Generates reports to validate data integrity, supports audit activities, and ensures compliance with University policies and regulatory requirements.
This position is designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during major storms, campus closures, and outside of normal business hours due to the 24/7 operational nature of Public Safety. Serves as part of a cross trained team providing backup support for other campus security systems to ensure continuity of critical security operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and eight years of experience in the same? (Note: appropriate post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
