Plan, organize, and conduct cheerleading practices that develop skills in motions, jumps, chants, dance routines, stunts, and game-day performances.
Teach proper cheerleading techniques while emphasizing safety, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Develop practice schedules and prepare the squad for athletic events, pep rallies, school functions, and competitions, when applicable.
Supervise cheerleaders during practices, games, travel, performances, and all team-related activities.
Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes by enforcing proper safety guidelines and approved cheerleading techniques.
Verify that all student-athletes meet district and school eligibility requirements, including academic standards and required athletic documentation.
Promote academic achievement by encouraging student-athletes to maintain satisfactory academic performance.
Foster leadership, confidence, responsibility, respect, discipline, and positive character development among squad members.
Promote school spirit and encourage positive crowd participation while maintaining appropriate conduct.
Choreograph or coordinate routines appropriate for the skill level of middle school cheerleaders.
Ensure stunts and routines are performed within district and applicable athletic association safety guidelines.
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, the Athletic Director, school administration, and faculty.
Maintain accurate team rosters, attendance records, equipment inventories, and required athletic documentation.
Inspect, distribute, collect, and properly store uniforms, pom-poms, signs, and cheerleading equipment.
Coordinate with the Athletic Director regarding schedules, transportation, uniforms, equipment, and event logistics.
Attend athletic events as assigned to support school teams through organized cheer activities.
Ensure compliance with district policies, school procedures, conference regulations, and applicable athletic association rules.
Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development sessions, and district athletic trainings.
Supervise student-athletes until they are released to a parent, guardian, or other authorized individual following practices, games, and events.
Report injuries, accidents, disciplinary concerns, or other incidents promptly to the Athletic Director and school administration.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, ethical behavior, and good sportsmanship.
Encourage parent and community support of the cheerleading program.
Perform other coaching-related duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, safety standards, and performance preparation.
Ability to teach age-appropriate cheerleading skills, chants, motions, jumps, and basic stunts.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and motivational skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, officials, and the community.
Knowledge of first aid, injury prevention, and emergency response procedures.
Ability to supervise students in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
