General Description

The purpose of this position is to properly operate and maintain the treatment facility in conformance with all Federal, State, and local regulations. This is accomplished by scheduling staff, giving appropriate direction to staff in the operation and maintenance of the plant assigned, budgeting, purchasing, completing, and submitting the Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR's) to the Florida Department of Environmental Projection (FDEP) per regulations, ensuring accuracy of all reports, utilizing the Hach Wims system to create plant specific DMR's for submission as needed, maintaining records, and utilizing the work management system. Other duties include preparing gain sharing reports; developing the capital budget; completing drips and drops; overseeing payroll; ensuring proper facility coverage; employee evaluations; ensuring the facility is maintained; obtaining samples for analysis; maintaining accurate records and an open relationship with customers and community.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains facility by obtaining samples; checking equipment for issues; inspecting organization communications are accurate; cleaning screens, channels, etc; documenting completed duties and projects; recording compliance issues; maintain accurate entries and log books; obtaining parts and supplies; preparing maintenance work orders; and ensuring plant log book is updated.
  2. Up keeps the facility by hosing down areas; checking for proper drainage; disposing of trash; addressing gate issues; removing spider webs, dirt, and debris; and ensuring facility is maintained.
  3. Tracks division spending by preparing capital and operating budgets; reviewing and approving requisitions for P.O.'s; reviewing expenditures; tracking costs; preparing in advance for Division needs.
  4. Tracks employee functions by evaluating personnel through quarterly and annual evaluations; reviewing operational daily paperwork; creating a learning atmosphere; reviewing information to ensure accuracy and timely reporting.
  5. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain that required qualification would be

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
  • Minimum of five years relevant experience.
  • Wastewater Operator A License.
  • Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk to a significant degree; use hands to operate tools or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to pull, push, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and twist. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Environmental factors include outdoor conditions; rugged terrain, slippery surfaces, varying weather, including, heat, cold, dry, wet weather. In addition, noise, darkness, brightness, vibrations, traffic, biological agents, chemicals, gas/ fumes, magnetic fields, or congested area. Environmental factors include indoor, flat surface, noise, sitting with occasionally walking and standing.
