DESCRIPTION
The Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller serves Leon County residents by supporting court operations, processing and recording judicial orders, and safeguarding public records and funds.

Starting Salary Notice: Initial appointments are typically made at or near the minimum of the approved pay range, consistent with budget authorization and internal equity.
Position Overview:The Clerk Services Specialist performs public-facing service, intake routing, transactional, and records-related functions that support access to Clerk services across courthouse and branch locations. The role supports a range of service areas including customer assistance, document intake and routing, official records access, cashiering and financial transactions, and other authorized public service functions as assigned in accordance with Florida Statutes, court rules, and established Clerk policies and procedures.
This position operates within a structured public-sector environment and is responsible for providing accurate procedural guidance, processing authorized transactions, and facilitating access to services while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to defined authority. The role applies established procedures but does not interpret legal rulings, provide legal advice, determine filing sufficiency, or perform court processing functions unless specifically authorized. Assignments may vary based on operational need, location, and training, and all duties are performed within established policies, procedures, and defined authority.
ESSENTIAL ROLE RESPONSIBLITIES
Public Access & Service AssistanceProvides front-line assistance to customers seeking access to Clerk services, including responding to inquiries, explaining procedures within authorized scope, directing customers to appropriate resources, facilitating completion of required forms or requests, and processing authorized payments and transactions in accordance with established cashiering procedures and internal controls while maintaining professionalism in high-volume or sensitive interactions. All duties are performed within established procedures and defined authority.

Intake Routing & Service CoordinationReceives and reviews customer submissions and requests for completeness within established guidelines and routes matters to appropriate processing units or workflows. Coordinates follow-up communication and communicates status information within authorized access.

Official Records Access SupportProvides assistance to customers seeking access to recorded documents and official records maintained by the Clerk and supports intake routing and authorized recording-related transactions consistent with established procedures.

Transaction Processing & CashieringProcesses authorized payments, receipts, and financial transactions in accordance with established procedures and internal controls. Maintains accuracy in transaction handling and supports reconciliation and documentation requirements within assigned authority.

Assignments may vary based on operational need and cross-training. Work is performed within established policies, procedures, and defined authority.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Foundational KnowledgeGeneral knowledge of office procedures, official records access, customer service practices, court services processes, and confidentiality requirements.

Functional SkillsAbility to accurately enter, retrieve, and communicate information within authorized systems. Ability to process transactions and service requests accurately within established procedures and escalate issues appropriately.

Communication & Professional SkillsAbility to communicate clearly and professionally with the public, attorneys, justice partners, and staff. Ability to maintain composure in high-volume or emotionally charged situations. Ability to explain procedural information without providing legal advice.

Analytical & Judgment SkillsAbility to apply policies, procedures, and service standards consistently. Ability to identify discrepancies and refer matters to appropriate processing staff. Ability to adapt to changing assignments and operational priorities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required EducationHigh school diploma or GED.

Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.

Required ExperienceExperience in customer service, clerical, financial transaction handling, legal support, court operations, or administrative environments preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Required Licensure or CertificationNone required.

Certain assignments, including passport services, may require federal eligibility and certification requirements.

Deputization, authorization, or federal certification may be required for certain assignments in accordance with office procedures and applicable requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of:
